This is excellent. The animation of the guy could read a little better, especially the part where he drops the gun. It kind of floats down and doesn't match the style of the other movements. But overall it's great.
Awesome, but there needs to be something to move it into the loop, maybe they push the monsters off the boat, and just the blood remains. You would have to add blood to the original scenes, but it would look so much better than it just repeating
@Rooster: Never heard of Eclipse before, however upon a quick google search it's clear they've used the 'free-to-use' Chipsets by Japanese pixel artists 'Mac & Blue', as well as many other graphics produced by the RPG Maker Community. Kiwi used the M&B Ship tileset as the basis for the ship, which is probably why there are several similarities such as the barrel and the basic floor (which he's improved upon).
@-DE-: Thanks for the feedback, I'm currently answering questions/quieries for Kiwi which relate to the game itself as he has limited access to the internet for the time being. Regarding the brightness of the sprites, thanks to Kiwi's laptop being "double backlit" (flippin' vaios) all the graphics he produces appear much darker on other computer screens. When he passes the images over to me to put into the game I crank the brightness up to match the rest of the graphics (the boat in this example). Seems this process wasn't added to the sprites in this animation (but it will for the final game, so all is well).
I'll bring up the matter of the characters being too similar, though given they don't associate with each other very much. If they were the two main characters there would be an issue, though! We may sneakily add more colour to the male character after this animation takes place in the game and hope nobody notices.
We probably won't be cranking up the brightness of the gun shots as anyone who's seen any flintlock weapon fire will tell you it's mostly just smoke and pellets (should you be unlucky enough to be on the receiving end). We may add more smoke coming out of the thing when it goes off, though!
If he were to add all the (unnecessary) details like you suggest, this intro (game) would never get finished.
I like it how it is, I even think you overdid it a bit. But hey, it's your game, you decide the quality :) My favorite part is the tiles - they are very good and blend with each other perfectly. I'm afraid the sprites are a bit too dark compared to them. You might consider adding some different colors to the sprites, because right now they are a bit monotonous. Atmosphere is one thing, easily distinguishable characters is another. If you were to place both heroes next to each other I would have trouble telling who is who.
First point (as FlyGuy said) - area lightnig from shots. Second - maybe playground anymation (maybe ship tilting when monsters jumping/climbing on it, curtain fluttering, swinging lamps. May be barrel and chest demolished by right monster...
At this time top of the ship is alive and the bottom one - completely dead.
But it is very nice =)
The flame from the gun barrel is not bright enough, you have to zoom in and focus way to much on it to even notice it's there. I think it would also be neet to see some light hitting the area around the fired shots.
