Why the selective highlighing?

The shadows on the upper arms and legs past the knees is an interesting technique, I'll have to remember it.

The style almost reminds me of cel shaded 3d models. some of the aa work on the legs looks like it solves a problem that I always have with them :P good stuff nate :]
