I love this style. Something about the Character, and Enemies doesn't feel right though, they don't contrast very well.

Looks fantastic! Though gameplay-wise I advise separating the bg a bit more. For example by decreasing its contrast.

mediaval / not high tech fantasy looking cave story game lol,
i like the cavestoryish style you used here, but enemys dont show enough imo, i could run into that goblin thinking he was a post if iwerent paying attention
