Yeah Carnivac/Wolverine is right. Though I think we can all agree that a better contrast would be good for those characters as now it looks like a gradient. Then again I've never played Yoshi's island.

I think that you could take a couple of colours of each of the critters, plus make hem a bit smoother through dithering them
