The deadline is coming up fast and this is a bit rushed, but being rushed is a good challenge and often inspires creative problem-solving. I had an idea for this screen that I'd never tried before: I knew I wanted to use at least a little bit of hand-drawn art for the start screen to give it a more dynamic feel than the flat gameplay style, and as I was working on the three band members I had this idea to mix in some of the zombie sprites from the actual gameplay (re-shaded to be darker, to go with the spooky mood of this scene). Then I added some smaller zombies in silhouette behind them, and I think the three sizes for all the characters creates a nice layered feel for the whole piece. It felt a bit strange to mix the game artwork with the larger illustration-style figures, but I really like how it came out.
I whipped up the background pretty quickly using some of the same designs for the buildings in the game, which I quickly re-drew at this smaller scale. This is actually the third Eiffel Tower I had to create for the game. You'll see why when the game is finished in a few days... |
I love this, it looks like a grindhouse movie poster.
