I really like the portrait, but I think it may get contradictory about which character is the main one. It may stop it from going to the actual challenge.

The pirate almost seems like a statue to me. The bird seems like the main subject of the picture.

Nice one Tomic.

Looks a bit tricky trying to make sure that the bird and pirate aren't fighting for space. My eyes always focus on the bird. Is that what you intended?
Also that heavy black outline on the right side of the bird, looks a little thick to me (but maybe it's just a stylistic choice of yours).

I do like how you handled the background.
