roboBOT: Under certain conditions, input devices can produce too few events; this means that the faster you draw, the less points are in the resulting shape (mice are the prime example here.). without stroke filling, a really fast circle ends up looking like a polygon. stroke smoothing is related -- it filters out 'jittery' events so you get smooth curves even when you move slightly unevenly (easy to do with tablet).
