Happy new year for ALL!!! so i come back to you with my big work that i have finished last summer 2008r, a splash screen for the best pixel art software (for me of course), i currently working on other graphs for PrO mOTiOn, because it's a pleasure to work for the great coder: jan zimmerman, but i also known very good artists who made great graphics under others softwares like toshop. Once again, happy new year 2009 and a great year of hard working on theses little things called PiXeLz \(^o^)/

castiboy (Level 5 Assistant Manager) @ 1/11/2009 13:41
there may be too much in there, but it's too much "awesome". man you've got skills, and this is damn impresive. gotta love the clouds, the grass, the rainbowy colour changes, the textures, the shading, the colours... etct. etc.

fawful (Level 6 Yonkyu) @ 1/10/2009 12:59

What the holy fuck thats ruddy awesome man!

Truely amazing!

HMC (Level 7 General Manager) @ 1/9/2009 20:14
I agree that it's technically skilled but kind of unpleasant to look at.

Blick (Level 7 Captain) @ 1/9/2009 17:49
This always seemed too cluttered and specular heavy for my liking.

MadProductions119 (Level 3 Corporate Drone) @ 1/9/2009 13:43
WOw.... amazing... this must have took months on end of nonstop working...

TomF (Level 2 Flatfoot) @ 1/9/2009 10:15
Come on man the crits aren't stupid. This totally blew me away with the vibrant colours and detail, but the piece isn't without it's faults.

Haserhud (Level 1 Rookie) @ 1/9/2009 09:42
This is one of the best pieces I have ever seen.  Frankly I think the criticism is unwarranted and stupid.  It is clearly a masterpiece.  Maybe if the subject were something more traditional and unoriginal, like an anime character or a game mockup, these people wouldn't be so quick to find fault.  God forbid you do something original...  But anyway, it's amazing. Really.

Packrat (Level 7 General Manager) @ 1/7/2009 22:28
What is going on here?! Or does it even matter, as it looks very awesome.

skeddles (Level 11 Sphinx) @ 1/7/2009 14:43
Haha, I was wondering who made this. It's awesome.

taquito143 (Level 5 Killer Klown) @ 1/6/2009 17:35

YOYOGiGi (Level 1 Rookie) @ 1/5/2009 19:05
Anyway Big Brother, Thanks for your detailled comments ;)

big brother (Level 11 Admiral) @ 1/5/2009 17:24
There is an impressive amount of detail present, and the colors are alive and vibrant. It would be nice to see more artistic principles at play though.

The flow of the composition seems disjointed, awkwardly patched together with colors that fight with each other for priority. The many focal points are scattered, and the piece does nothing to lead my eyes. As a result, I'm quickly frustrated; the piece becomes more of an eyesore than the work of beauty I want to admire!

It'd be helpful if you included space to rest your eyes, contrasting details against planes. To enhance clarity and reduce clashing, you can buffer out the strong primaries with areas of neutral colors.

There are a multitude of depth issues present. All the arms seem to be on the same z axis, and it's hard to believe their placement in 3D space. Viewing the piece from a distance while you're creating it could give you insight into this.

Some elements interact with the scene, while others don't. For instance, the rope floats on top of the grass, while the same grass (along the same x-axis) overlaps the hands and feet. The grass in the distance has similar saturation to that in the mid-ground, exacerbating the piece's flatness.

The musculature seems to be individually invented for each part. It lacks solid construction, where each form hosts smaller, secondary forms within it rather than a mess of lumpy tubes with scratchy details.

There seem to be a million different light sources hitting the creature from all angles, yet one common shadow (as if lit from above and behind the viewer's head). Each sub-form sports a specular highlight; some even two or three. It's hard to see through the shiny mess and understand the creature as a hierarchy of forms. It almost looks like one of those "impossible-to-build" optical illusions.

I could be wrong, but this appears to be (at least) mostly hand-drawn like traditional pixel. However, choosing to ignore the optimization of your palette does a disservice to the piece, when it could help unify the visual cacophony.

I don't mean this critique to sounds harsh. I love hearing compliments as much as anyone else, but just saying "great job" won't help you grow as an artist!

YOYOGiGi (Level 1 Rookie) @ 1/5/2009 12:32
Maybe i don't exactly understand what you mean badassbill but All is done by me, anti-alias, reflect, dithering, etc...for eg, it's volontary if just the head is dithered, etc...but don't worry, i didn't take badly what you invoke, otherwise i didn't post my graphics on PJ :) I saw on the forum artist who post their WIPs, so i just take a descision if it's a good stuff to post my works :)

Badassbill (Level 11 Big Foot) @ 1/5/2009 12:01
I can't speak for others, but the comment I made was not to say that this piece is not pixelart. It's very clear that the majority of this piece is hand pixeled, but some spots have inconsistencies in the technique and overall polish of the piece. These inconsistencies are often from automatic tools (whether it be AA, Dither, smudging etc) that have errors. These errors are because of a machines lack of knowledge in what needs these effects and what does not.

YOYOGiGi (Level 1 Rookie) @ 1/5/2009 11:50
SO ! thanks guys for your comments, for some guys who wonder if it's pixel art, yes it is ! all pixels in this pictures was put by me, no tricks, i very weird that you can't believe that i can be done by hand, generaly i keep a lot of steps during conception of all my productions, but i don't want to explain all my technics and you will understand, i find myself technics during these last 15 years...But i can do an effort and post some steps just for the proofs, thrust me, it's better when you find technics by yourself and my work is not much amazing that others, every body has got their own style, mine is complex near the mayhem, contrasted, and use generaly ramps of colors with no HSB variations (i try to fix it by make by hand all ramp of colors), and in this picture i deliberately draw the characters with impossible muscle, it's simply art...To finish i could put some WIPs but i didn't think that i can put them in my gallery, maybe it's in the forum but i don't know exactly....Anyway, thanks guys to read me, and believe me it's really pixel art otherwise there's no interest to post on PiXeL jOin+ ;)

Antiboton (Level 8 Odds and Ends) @ 1/5/2009 11:28
If we are in Pixeljoint I think we want to see pixel-art not other digital art.

Howeva, the drawing is great.

Badassbill (Level 11 Big Foot) @ 1/5/2009 05:12
As much as I love the art its self, there are some very obvious none-pixel techniques used on it.

elend (Level 3 Corporate Drone) @ 1/5/2009 03:36
Wow. Now that's a huge artwork. The character is a tad weird, but I really like the clouds.

joseph_ch (Level 3 Enforcer) @ 1/5/2009 02:09
WOW. I love it! A freaking masterpiece right here! I am just floored.

The B.O.B. (Level 11 Master Assassin) @ 1/5/2009 01:12
Hey, there's nothing wrong with Promotion. As of late, I've used it sometimes, and it's just as helpful(if not better) as other programs in the pixel art world. This looks legit to me, though, so I have no problem with it. I like how all the tools are incorporated in the piece, especially the bubbles of the eyedrop tool, and the fill-bucket.
Technically, this is fairly well done. On a personal level, however, I feel the choice to show so much muscle detail on the character, kinda' kills the piece's overall Joyous attitude. I think it also blends a bit too much into the other details, especially the clouds, particularly due to the patterns and swirls. I think a more softer character, with a much more receptive or excited face would blend much better into a piece such as this, rather than the bland expression the guy has now. Also, the  character's top-most right (our left) hand has a strange wrinkle over the wrist, that I can't quite understand the reason for it being there, as a joint bent in that position would surely stretch any wrinkles out.  However, the shine of the skin and it's patterns are top notch, I'll give you that.
All in all, it's very well done, but I hope to see more traditionally done pixel art from you in the near future as well!

*ps, what's with demosceners always using such a straight ramp of green grassy fields in their pieces, where as other objects in those pieces have such extreme hue changes and color ramps? It's always looked so strange, as it never blends, and makes the piece clash. Is there something I'm not in on?

Ashes (Level 1 Depressed) @ 1/5/2009 00:54
I agree with the merc...  and I also think some here could use diplomacy lessons.
No need to be aggressive to ask some wip or else....

Whatever, a great piece of work like always yoyogigi !!

Slemsvamp (Level 6 Serial Killer) @ 1/4/2009 23:28
You could've used less colours, but I still think it's awesome

Darth Mandarb (Level 10 Operative) @ 1/4/2009 23:04
Very nice and detailed.

jeremy (Level 11 Sphinx) @ 1/4/2009 22:53

Hah, awesome  The lower clouds look almost like oil paint and the hue shifting in the big eye is amazing.

My one main crit would be the dithering on the cheeks, stands out against the smoothness of the rest of the piece

(WIPs would be nice too )

TheFox (Level 1 Seaman) @ 1/4/2009 22:48
Perhaps you should look at the rest of YOYOGiGi's work. I agree with BlackBelt on this one, no matter how it was made, its still genius and took a lot of skill.

Great job. I always wondered who made that banner.

pixelblink (Level 9 Federal Agent) @ 1/4/2009 22:33
it is really a nice work of art... though at 214 colours it does lose some of my respect for typical pixel boundaries and such.

The_Merc_FCS (Level 2 Hired Gun) @ 1/4/2009 22:31
lol whenever I see a new submission from this artist, there's always that one person whose like "umm, this is a very large piece and it's very detailed and well I'm going to need video proof that you did this in paint or I'm telling everyone you did it in photoshop." xD

Excellent job, it's a very good piece of work.

Blackbeltdude (Level 7 Ichikyu) @ 1/4/2009 22:04
Man, it's so awesome... frankly, I don't care how it was made, because it's just so well done. Tools are just tools as far as I'm concerned; it's the people using them that makes them effective.

I did notice there where some stray magenta pixels though. :P 2 in the wrist near the green cube and the paint can, and another one near the frame, "T", and hand there. Easy to fix if you want to go back and do that. :)

Vital (Level 5 Sniper) @ 1/4/2009 13:25
Pro motion can't generate characters and pitures, that's only an instrument,a tool.

Vital (Level 5 Sniper) @ 1/4/2009 09:45
Aww..nevermind,I'm just a kid from small village in the east of Europe..don't listen to me..
