I think that the colors you have chosen are way more happy, cartoony and funny, but that the different color tones and the dithering makes even less sense, but maybe thats also because there is almost no contrast ;).
I think its an improvement :)

I like its design, which is what mostly makes this image your image.
However, I think the colors are not that good. Not only there is very low contrast on everything, which makes it look a bit boring, also you have shaded in a very weird way.

Now in this case, I can think of ways to do that better, but mostly you see flat surfaces, so there is not really the opportunity to give things volume. That makes me say you might have better been going with an even more cartoony style.
The shapes already are very cartoony, if you made the colors match to that (mostly flat colors, bright and saturated ones) it would be perfect :)
I really do like the shape of the clouds by the way. They seem to be funny, but realistic too! and with 2 different colors for 'm you get a nice feel of different layers, without having them merged into each other!
