thanks guys. and yes, theyre actually squares with outlines techniquely, the reason being that a pixel with an outline would have too much outline to pixel ratio if you get what I mean.

At first glance this looks like a gif to jpeg conversion gone horrible wrong. But upon closer inspection, this is actually quite a genius work of art. Kudos.
