Manage to kill a couple of weekends to animate piece I made for a different purpose and which has been left without one.=) Some flaws most likely, but I've reached my fun limits on this.

Since originally it was meant to be on the white, please exuse white bg, it stuck to it pretty well with aa.

Edit:
About speed - I've been using FF for so long i forgot there are others. 1mb gif WILL slow down in some browsers due to specific compression method in gif format. Also IE wasn't able to read delays less then 0.1 sec when we met last time, don't know how it treating it now. Probably assembling it in flash would be a better idea for cross browsing issue.

Got fixed a few things for better or worse in this gif

Absolute – wow.

user
Egt Smartie (Level 1 Seaman) @ 1/25/2009 03:21
The animation of the Bird is so good! Well, everything is good, but I love the bird!

user
CaKsTeR (Level 3 Stalker) @ 1/24/2009 22:52
I really love the expression on the boy's face! Well, I love the whole piece, but that just stands out to me ;D

user
IanPhillips (Level 1 Rookie) @ 1/24/2009 20:42
That is totally awesome!!!

user
YOYOGiGi (Level 1 Rookie) @ 1/24/2009 09:18
3xG = Good Skill, Good Anim, Great Work ^_^

user
Stickman (Level 7 Sheriff) @ 1/23/2009 09:20
That's a nice scene you animated there! You haven't posted an animation on here for quite awhile, so it's nice to see something like this again:)

user
Darth Mandarb (Level 10 Operative) @ 1/22/2009 14:31
I know you said you have "reached your fun limits" on this but since I can't seem to stop staring at it I did notice one other teensy-tiny little "glitch" perhaps...

The lowest sail (in front of the pump thing); the ending of the spar (the side towards the middle of the screen), when it reaches its lowest point it appears to just leap back/disappear for a frame or two.  Again just nit-picky on my part but I figure it you were gonna go in and re-work the last thing I mentioned you might want to take a peak at this part too!

user
Zweckform (Level 1 Intern) @ 1/22/2009 13:26
Awesome piece. Did the King have a clue that once the Fool would rule ?

user
ElectroNico (Level 6 Serial Killer) @ 1/22/2009 02:18
I watched it at the corect speed only today, as IE does not play it properly ! And i'm even more amazed !! I think that your talent has no limit, Fool ! :)

user
Marina (Level 9 Necrophiliac) @ 1/22/2009 00:08
Are you a kind of god, or what? That's really a awesome work... I really admire you a lot, since long time ago.

Good work!

user
Fool (Level 6 SWAT) @ 1/21/2009 18:41
Guys, thanks a lot for inputs.=)

Haserhud, thank you but not really true =)

progZmax, thanks=) i'll fix it as soon as i get rid of the puking sensation from looking at it=)

Darth Mandarb, why should you be flamed? That is an opinion=) Honestly, it is just not enough frames to make a decent loop ,  simply too fast. I think i'll get it into flash and increase frame rate. Let see if it will help.

Doppleganger, and i thought I got away with it.=D that sail have to be redrawn at the different angle, otherwise rope interfere with a dowel  and makes an eye sore.

user
alkaline (Level 6 Yonkyu) @ 1/21/2009 16:16
your animations work so well. even things as small as feathers falling have been managed to somehow work seamlessly, and very ingeniously too. nicely done

user
Doppleganger (Level 6 Yonkyu) @ 1/21/2009 16:01
That's utterly amazing, but I would like to know how the sail that is beneath the patchwork sail is staying erect in the air like that.  It looks to me like that dowel is not attached to anything and is just kind of suspended in the air.

user
Slemsvamp (Level 6 Serial Killer) @ 1/21/2009 14:36
The great thing about this is the animation, I can't really put my finger on it, but it doesn't keep the same standard as you previous work. It's still awesome tho!

user
Darth Mandarb (Level 10 Operative) @ 1/21/2009 07:39
I'll probably get flamed for this ... but I don't like the bird's animation!  The rest of the piece (only 32 frames) repeats wonderfully and feels almost non-repetitive.  But the bird is very noticeably repetitive and takes just a bit away from the animation (for me).  Let me rephrase, it's lovely, just repetitive!

Also, the main sail (with the patchwork) on the full "down" frame(s) for the shadow the flower patterned panel on the bottom left... the flowers appear to jump a bit when the shadow gets to the bottom most point.  It's not terrible ... just caught my eye!

Other than that I can't stop staring at this thing!  Great animation!

edit
oh and by the way... LOVE that bed's headboard thing at the stern ... great addition!

user
006 (Level 2 Corporal) @ 1/21/2009 03:47
What are your secrets? Stunning once again. Love all of your animations.

user
Mykola (Level 3 Corporate Drone) @ 1/21/2009 00:18

This looks a milllion times better when watched at correct speed.

IE sucks at displaying this, Firefox does a good job.

Also, saving it and watching it in an image viewer program a la acdsee or irfan does the trick.

user
ProgZmax (Level 1 Depressed) @ 1/20/2009 23:29
As someone who favors animation to artwork, I think you've done a brilliant job here with 32 frames.  A couple of things that seem a bit odd to me:

Between frames 5-6 and 25-26 there's weird pixel substitutions around the boy's arm and the wheel that seem out of place.  In frame 26 especially it looks strange because part of the cuff of his shirt just disappears without any visible explanation.

I only pointed this out because I loaded up your animation when these things stood out to me while watching the animation cycle, and they drew my attention away from what is otherwise a brilliant piece of work.

Bravo, really.

user
neota (Level 8 Shodan) @ 1/20/2009 18:06
Hehe, people here are always so impressed by your work, Fool. Well, so am I, I just think it's good to be able to identify why. Of course your style has a lot of charm, but really I think the thing that leads people to say you're insanely good is simply good draftsmanship -- putting a sufficient amount of work into the design stage. So, more than anything else I am impressed by your discipline.

user
AdamF (Level 11 CEO) @ 1/20/2009 15:58
why don't we just go ahead and give you the "insane pixelartist" award and stop giving you so many monthly tops =P great stuff...

user
bugman (Level 2 Flatfoot) @ 1/20/2009 15:56
Ha ha, that is awesome!

user
vierbit (Level 2 Recycling) @ 1/20/2009 15:52
Wow, never noticed this before. The slightly wacky animation reminds me a bit of the
metal slug games.
The pathetic bird is the highlight for me.

user
Fuzzyleaves (Level 5 Detective) @ 1/20/2009 14:29
Funny :D

user
Kaiseto (Level 6 Made) @ 1/20/2009 13:50
Yup... I was right. Straight to place #1 :p

Not that it doesn't deserve it, as always.

user
Haserhud (Level 1 Rookie) @ 1/20/2009 11:01
You really do have an incredible gift for pixeling.  As usual, virtually every other artist on here pales in comparison.  You are on a whole other level here, and I have yet to see anyone else match you.

user
Chace (Level 5 Captain) @ 1/20/2009 10:37
This is totally insane, Fool.
#1 January for sure!

user
dumbo (Level 4 Mercenary) @ 1/20/2009 10:32

Fool (Level 6 SWAT) @ 1/20/2009 08:51
Thanks everyone for comments and crits=)

About speed - I've been using FF for so long i forgot there are others. 1mb gif WILL slow down in some browsers due to specific compression method in gif format. Also IE wasn't able to read delays less then 0.1 sec when we met last time, don't know how it treating it now. Probably assembling it in flash would be a better idea for cross browsing issue.

coran, yeah, i've spotted that too, thanks=)

ui, i draw still image first with all the textures applied (it much easier to keep track of pixels that way, then draw doodly sketch animation ( if needed) one the underneath layer and then duplicate and modify previous frame to fit doodle sketch.

RobbieE, thanks, see it now.

dogmeat, yeah, it is a left over from more constructions, but i decide to keep it since it works for the rotation.

iLKke, some frame difference in place indeed, but just want to keep low frame rate preventing increase in file size and at some point have to live with it.

user
Helm (Level 5 Detective) @ 1/20/2009 08:32
Fool, this is extremely lovely. Beautiful sentiment and execution. I adore it, thank you for making it.

So amazing, seriously. 7/7 + fav

user

Still need more frames but is awesome!

user
mechast (Level 3 Sergeant) @ 1/20/2009 07:23
Amazing! The bird is hilarious =)

user
philipptr (Level 4 Team Leader) @ 1/20/2009 07:12
I smell first place in the monthly top 10 ;) Great work on pretty much everything!

user
PixelSpy (Level 5 Captain) @ 1/20/2009 06:48
Very nice....regarding the speed, I tried Opera, IE and Google Chrome. It is slow and choppy in Chrome and IE but looks perfect in Opera. Not sure why it would matter...

user
DeProgrammer (Level 7 Underboss) @ 1/20/2009 06:36
There's so much to look at!

user
Tre Le Coco (Level 1 Thug) @ 1/20/2009 06:26
I noticed a few people commenting on the animations speed, what kind of browsers are people using because its at a perfectly fine speed for me O.o; Rather fast actually

This is a really wonderful piece ^^ The bird has to be my fav, he is super cute <3
Great stuff!

user
Sig~ (Level 6 Hitman) @ 1/20/2009 04:49
AWESOME!! The animation is amazing! perfect

user
Sev_4 (Level 5 Detective) @ 1/20/2009 04:32
Amazing!!! I'm found of the bird, where can I get one?! ^^

user
iLKke (Level 9 Nidan) @ 1/20/2009 03:00

That's a very nice animation, despite several missing-frames here and there. My guess is you didn't want to bother to make an odd number of frames to fit all the anim cycles of various parts. And yes, it is a tad on the slow side.

Only real crit is that the wood on the 'ship' looks kinda dull and mechanically rendered for the most part.

Fav bit is the little rubber flapping thing. :D

user
agur (Level 1 Gangster) @ 1/20/2009 02:56
absolutely stunning!

user
AndyOaks (Level 1 Rookie) @ 1/20/2009 02:37
God, that's amazing!

Now thats an animation!

user
FishBoy (Level 1 Private) @ 1/20/2009 02:15

The animation is to slow I think.

elend (Level 3 Corporate Drone) @ 1/19/2009 23:16
The incredible fool strikes again. I don't know how you are doing it, but it's great. I really love your colors and your technique. The animation is great as well.

user
JerryPie (Level 11 Big Foot) @ 1/19/2009 22:58
Fool you are inspirational.

user
skooba-dude (Level 8 Guerrilla) @ 1/19/2009 22:16
Oh damnit, fool, if this animation was fluent I'd be able to give it a full 8/8, the shadwos and textures are amazing so I give it 7/8, I straight-away noticed that axle though, I love the water, and the sheer creativity of the peice, I wanna see more like this!

user
Saporion (Level 3 Enforcer) @ 1/19/2009 22:00
There are so many elements to this piece that makes it own. (:

user
blue (Level 2 Peon) @ 1/19/2009 21:56
This is so amazing. {: I think the patchwork sail is my favorite part; so many different colors in there, and yet it meshes so well.

user
greenraven (Level 2 Hired Gun) @ 1/19/2009 20:17
I don't think I've ever seen any animations from you. I am not disappointed.

user
Ky3bMu4 (Level 8 Guerrilla) @ 1/19/2009 20:09
I have no words about this... Incredible =)

user
Claredeth (Level 4 Shichikyu) @ 1/19/2009 20:00
It seems like almost every piece you submit gets top 10, its nearly impossible for this one not to.

user
Prophet (Level 1 Rookie) @ 1/19/2009 19:40
Absolutely amazing

user
Death-Auron (Level 1 Rookie) @ 1/19/2009 19:08

this is really really good, i love it. i think it would look even nicer if it was a lil bit faster (just me, dont take me seriously). i love all the detail and imagination this shows its really intriguing (i guess thats the word)

+fav of course, i woul've faved it even if it werent animated! (sry for the english)

user
RobbieE (Level 3 Chief) @ 1/19/2009 18:54
Amazing.

One little thing that just feels wrong to me is the boys arm turning the handle when it reaches the top, The stripe you can see just looks a bit odd how it 'flashes'

user
ui_ (Level 4 Deputy) @ 1/19/2009 18:18
jajaajja amazine!... thx for your pleasure art :D....
just a question... what technique you use for animation? i mean, you draw all the outline first and then paint it all, or another technique?...

an a plus... maybe will be great to see in this piece... is light variation on the wood/stick and part of the ship, the molines and wheels, but that's just my opinion (sorry about my english)...

user
coran (Level 1 Seaman) @ 1/19/2009 18:08
Very well done, there's obviously nothing I can say that hasen't been said already, except that you mistakenly transparented the boy's shirt.  =)  Still, I love and favorited. 5/5, just because the animation is amazing, everything has personality and even as a still it's impressive.  Well done, I tip my hat to thou!

Toodles!
Shrike

Curse you fool and your awesomeness!!

user

Клас) Ему только друга еще не хватает, чтобы на заднем дворе в пиратов поиграть, хотя его "Кеша" и так в восторге )

user
Shiru (Level 6 SWAT) @ 1/19/2009 17:01
Great as always.

user
Fool (Level 6 SWAT) @ 1/19/2009 16:40
Yeah, I've heard that already=)) Someone comment like - we need to get that dude to get laid before he hurt himself.=)

Actually it is not that complex when you look at the small  pieces.  Here,  for example - boy is  8  original frames, pump -8 , sails - 8, 5 and 3 , water - 4, fans - 3, parrot - 8 etc.

user
skeddles (Level 11 Sphinx) @ 1/19/2009 16:36
Damn fool, you are amazing. It's absolutely awesome in every way.

user
zi-double (Level 9 Necrophiliac) @ 1/19/2009 16:21
one question - are you crazy ? OK maybe I'm crazy because when see some new work  always inspiration come back :)

this is insane to manage so many animations in .gif format ! I see work like that for first time :)
