It was re-designed as it did not fit the rest of the games style.

You could make the mouth or eyes move up slightly before he drops ('anticipation' ?) and make the middle deform when he hits the ground ('bend and squash').

Reminds me of the falling blocks in Cave Story with the one eye.
Looks cool!
