What king of games says about the color is true. For the red pants, you have used dark red, light red and white. I would have chosen Dark red, brown, grey, red and yellow, Maybe even all the other inbetween colors. In a palette like this you should often go to the right luminance, not to the right hue. His face is without a doubt white right? Yet it contains black, yellow, blue, green, red and teal! Not only you have more colors to work with, it also creates a more interesting picture.
But asides from the colors, the light and the shadows are not that nice. If you would place a lamp exactly on the right side of the clown and nowhere else, it might look a bit like this. But otherwise not. Try to imagine how this clown would look in real. What its shapes would be. Think logical where light would be reflected into the viewers eye. The clowns left foot is on the higher pedal. That would make its upper leg go right forward. Due to the shading I can not see that, it just looks as his left leg is quite much shorter than the right one.
Those juggling balls. You seem to have highlighted them with white. Not too bad, but why does the highlight gets flipped on half the balls?
And last, but not least, the dithering. For beginners there is just one tip: Dont do it! When you are almost finished you can try it a bit, compare it well to the stuff you had earlier, find out that you liked the non dithered version more and stick to it!
i agree, i think the way i have done it is way to 'rigid?', in terms of colour use and dithering. Need to loosen up and work on improving colour usage. Thanks, this is my first attempt at non iso p art and i am learning loads form this piece so far.
Way too much dithering and no chances taken with the colors. You can combine the colors in new ways to make them more interesting instead of just doing basic dark mid and light versions of the same color. I mean it is important when dealing with volumes, but is not applied correctly here because it still looks flat. Also it's really small.
I am sorry I was not able to properly reply on your request of critism in the topic. Since I feel there is still a lot room for improvement here I am willing to give you the critique I have if you want, please reply to this comment than :) Also, I believe that this would have gotten more attention, and would have become quite interesting if you made a WIP thread for this. Let me hear if you want to know my opinion!
