this shows the colors used in the image. if thats true, you used over 30 to AA that belly.
I AA the white "underbelly", using several different colors in the process.. perhaps that is what caused it.
GIF format never adds move colors, i'd belive if it took colors from your original. wich makes me believe the problem was before saving them to gif. somewhere, at some point, you might have sued a blurry-like tool and you might not notice. remember 1 pixel of a diferent color is enought to count in the palette.
63 colors for the green version, 73 for the blue version.
Metaru, not everyone is a master of small palettes. I wasn't until I heard that that's what everyone else did, and so I started practicing it. For instance, take a look at this:
pixeljoint.com/pixelart/29494.htm
Before I started reworking it, it had been over 200 colors. I didn't use special tools or anything. I was just hand picking every single color, not thinking about reusing colors at all.
So like I said, not everyone is a stickler about color counts. There are, after all, 256 colors allowed. Plus, if Cat had used a blur tool, there would be way more than 50 some colors. There'd be a few hundred.
