Pixel technique is not everything. Good and original pixel art requires creativity and drawing skill too.
This thing surely shows those, and about the pixel skill it is most likely just a lack of experience :). I seriously believe you are better in drawing funny characters like that, but it is really pointless to discuss this xD

Very nice! It took a while to understand it was some sort of an alien where the body was not drawn, but now that I do see it I like it a lot!
You have picked some nice colors, made the 'helm' very shiny and yet translucent, and I really enjoy the white 'paint' spots on the background!
