WOw I Love This one, and your entire gallery, simple but very nice.
okay, i get it now. Maybe could use brown to divide the sole of the foot rather than the pant color.
Animation is made keeping in mind elements of ukrainian 'Gopak' dance and 'Yablochko' dance of russian sailors. Russian dancers usually do something similar (pixelled versions of them you can see in Tetris). It can be danced sitting and throwing legs in front of you or standing and touching the ground all the time (but it is by no means encyclopedic explanation - I danced it long long time ago). Your variant looks clearer but in mine the heels on the shoes can be seen.
My internet expensive - dont want to watch youtube. Here is edit: http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e199/sharprm/elevator_dance_anim.gif
Assumes grey means foot only (not highlight). If your anim better matches folk dance then no need to change.
The elevator is a character, the rest are just 'extras'.
His move is a bit like in this video at 1:00:

Yeah, the questions are now is if adding other characters is acceptable and if crowd can count as single character.
Shouldn't you draw black under the foot when he kicks? I assume the grey bits that appear and disappear are his feet.
edit:
I found this 'a' definition good:

Right, he kicking one leg, then bends it back and kicking another.
hmm... the guy on the right, i originally thought he was kicking his legs forward, but looking closely that can't be right. What is he doing?
If you look closely, you'll see that fat girl does 'walk like egyptian' move. I assumed that it's too dangerous if she would jump or stomp her feet and she can have fun just waving hands. After completion I saw that it would be better if she moved up and down somehow, but (again, if you look closely, you'll see that) she is closest character to the background, and making frames in MS Paint all over again would be too time-consuming. However, maybe I'll find the way to get her in the groove with changing only few pixels.
>Wouldn't the elevator going up and down (see ropes) affect the jump?
I haven't thought about it! But if you... Shortly, it appears that his jump is timed with going up and down, so, if it affects, it looks quite right.
The question is whether "a character" is an exclusive condition [pay attention to ThereIsNoCure :P]. I think: A house with four dogs has "a pet" but would not have "a single pet". "Exclusive - not divided or shared with others"
Very good that u got these tiny sprites to have character - eg. nerdy girl. I don't like the electricity though or the fat lady who doesn't move. Wouldn't the elevator going up and down (see ropes) affect the jump?
There is five a characters!! School's out forever!
Simply put:
Q: Is there a character on the picture?
A: Yes, there is.
Q: Are we not men?
A: We are DEVO!
A, used before a noun; a character, expresses the quantity as one. It needs a plural noun; a hundred characters, to express more than one.
Pay attention in class kids.
It's cute still.
>Transparency
Updated.
>create a character
I think I did this - I created a character, then created another to accompany her, there were no state in the rules that character should be alone (or he would "Dance with himself", as Metaru's Billy Idol, sadly he didn't prepare version for challenge - It is clear winner). If all this not goes, I assume that elevator can be called a character too (it goes up and down and sings). That's my point... I should be a lawyer!
Well, all 48 other entries have all featured a single character...I guess Lollige has the final say on this, though.
The create a (single) character part was perhaps not emphasized enough in the description (to the point of being exclusive)
This doesn't quite fit the challenge =|
"Transparency - Required."
"create a character"
Thanks. This one uses palette from early 80's arcade game.
