I have to say, r1k, that the lighter parts in the tree should actually be darker rather than lighter. Not really a fan of the dirt but I do like the grass sections. Especially the greens you used :)
this looks pretty nice, but i dont like the colors so much.
first of all, i want to say good work it all looks beatiful.
here are my thoughts:
- the solid s on the tree is just a bit to wierd. draw the tree normally and if placed in game, make the branches act as solid jump through platforms.
- try to finish off the branches it looks like you cut out the end of brnch and said to hell with poutting it back on.
- the grass on tree isn't very good, the pattern repeats its self and it looks wierd.
- the gap in ground next to spikes is so small character can't fit in there. so unless you place an enemy coming out of there it is pretty pointless.
-last one i think the spikes look shocking. they don''t match the style at all.
overall though you managed to shade everything wonderfully, and you have seperated the background from the character so well it looks great but it also makes some of your outlines stand out to much, like the purple you used for ground and trees.
well hope this helps, and ythis should be in the weekly showcase if it isn't already.
The ground looks horrible. To much noise going on there.
I think that the light block doesn't work due to the tree being to close to the foregorund?Like this?

The tree canopy seems very unfinished?
the trees are supposed to be in the foreground and act as walls, the lighter part is where the character is able to go through. It looks kind of wierd but makes more since if you were actually playing it.
Why are those trees partly lighter?
Any way, there are quite a lot of nice things in this :)
I love the font. Don't quite understand the lighter parts in the trees, I guess they're supposed to be tunnels. Well, maybe they should be darker, with a different pattern, and the trees should have some apparent roots over the grass, so it's clear that the tree is not in the background, and it's an obstacle you must go through. The height of the rightmost tunnels is kinda weird, don't you think? It's smaller than the character, so, unless they are really close to the ground, and the character is able to crouch, then they don't really make sense... Also, the spikes don't match the overall style of it. But anyway, nice work!
