It lets you see all the faults in shading better too.
Your skin tones are also too yellow, don't be afraid to hue shift.

well black outlines are not needed but what you need to do is make it so from a distance you can clearly tell the shadow areas from the light areas.  Think about it as you have 2 distinct areas, the shadows, and the light.  The contrast within in each area can be subtle, but the contrast between the 2 areas should be more obvious.

Colors need more contrast, but it's still pretty good

r1k,  I looked in your gallery and saw this: http://www.pixeljoint.com/pixelart/38705.htm .  Is this what you mean by more contrast?  I didn't want a black outline, but the skin tones you used are pretty good.

you need to use more contrast on your skin tones.
