Nice flash, but a little tip picked up from jad at pixelation; for particle effects like explosions, you can really make an animation look good, even with really ugly frames, if you consider the actual motion. In this instance, having the initial blast be quicker (2, maybe 3 frames to get to the max perimeter) and then let it fade out to the little wisps with more frames will give it a lot more oomph. I'd post the link, but a recent harddrive failure killed all my bookmarks. Hope you get it though :)
Thanks a lot for the advice DJD! I should let you know that in-game, the explosion animation is a lot faster, but I understand what you mean by giving it greater speed to obtain its max radius. The explosion itself will be used at many instances at random locations around an object to acheive better particle effects. Have a good one!
