An idea for a game enemy. Trying different animation tricks/effects. Looks better on darker backgrounds (I'd say...)

Forgot to mention... it's not really a cat, as it has a spiders abdomen. Just imagine an ethereal cat that can spin webs. It makes sense. <.<

I think this is sooo cool, reminds me of the amega game another world or the shadow creatures from Ico. Deffo one of my favs. Good work.

The flickering dither patterns are really spooky.  I Especially like that the leading leg leaves a sort of after image when it moves back.  The trailing eye is also a nice touch.  Well done.

i think the animation should be sped up, and the eye always the same shape, just moving but its pretty cool. (whats up with the fluffy tail?

I can certainly imagine something like this being in a Castlevania game. I haven't really played them that much... do you know which game you saw it in? I'd like to see what you're talking about. (I'm sure their monster design is better than my spider-abdomen-panther atrocity ;) )

Haven't I seen something like this in Castlevania? Only like, even if it was inspired by, surely it is not ripped! And it was nice like this one too.

creepy cool, I mean... the effect is awsome, and the red eyes

This feels like it was inspired by Camus. Pretty nifty finite :)

DrunkyDuck: Nope, I was actually thinking about the black beasts in Out of this world (aka Another World) when creating it. But I can see the similarity after looking at some Heart of Darkness screenshots. ;)

The B.O.B.: I added that part after your comment, so don't feel bad. ;)

fishmeester: It's meant to be fairly flat, like a shadow against the ground or a wall, like a ghost, not really connected to reality. The sort of creature that would emerge from a dark forest and (hopefully) scare the crap out of the player. ;)

very kool effect indeed, i agree it looks like a reflection in water

user
DrunkyDuck (Level 1 Quiet One) @ 6/29/2005 14:31
I love it. Looks like a shadow reflected in water. Inspired by Heart of darkness by any chance?

@ BOB: " it's not really a cat, as it has a spiders abdomen"

I like it, but is it supposed to look like a shadow on the ground, or as upright standing? Because it looks like a shadow on the ground to me.

I like the flicker/shadow effect. One thing though, why is the cat's ass stickin' out so much?

This is really cool... very spooky. Wish I could see the rest of it.
