Heh, very interesting! I really like hte idea of this! it looks quite nice!
Who is the British looking guy on the left? I know that the others are Saddam and Hitler, but I don't recognize that guy.
I'll certainly trust your skill over mine here, and I can't wait to see it!
It's more the case of it not being finished, not just because I'm unhappy with it. A lot of the areas need to be cleaned up so that the whole piece has consistency.
Wow, Inquisitor, that sounds like a lot of changes to a piece that hit me as a total working whole in one shot. The author of the work always knows where the blemishes are and never likes to risk the public catching on (yes, I'm one of those who thought the Star Wars special editions were mostly pointless) so I'll beseach you on those grounds not to change very much, if anything. Great work as is!
On the clouds, it's more than evident that I got it wrong considering the amount of puzzled feedback. I can't argue with the numbers. The clouds do look a lot like the steam from my last piece, but I want to avoid saying that "It's my style" excuse, so my style isn't right. I'll do some studying for next time I have to deal with cloud on a new piece. I'll stick with it for this one though. It's obvious to me where I'm going wrong, but not so obvious on how to solve it. I insist on having everything crisp, clear and as detailed as possible, which doesn't really work for whispy gas colours.
Sharprm: I'm making a point and click adventure game, but not based on this, sorry. I wouldn't want to make a game where the main characters are Saddam, Hitler and Napolean.
Thanks again, guys.
Wow, Inq. Yet another excellent pixelart (despite not being finished). You've really gone from being "great" to "awesome".
Kudos for a clever entry as well!
The clouds do look like toilet paper now that you guys mention it.
Someone should make a point and click adventure game out of this.
I guess those bricks are made out of flames, and their teeth of clouds, eh?
Seeing snow here is quite lame and unimaginative guys :/
The challenge is 'Heaven or Hell' pretty much anything white = clouds and anything red = flames. No matter what the visual execution is taken by anyone who entered.
Doesn't look like snow at all to me (I've never seen snow curly cue like before at least... and I've seen a LOT of snow) but it doesn't look particularly "cloud" like to me either (but my first thought was clouds).
I love the story of this, so much detail crammed into a small canvas. Looking forward to your updates!
Saddam is distracting the guard dog with the meat Peach :P theyre sneaking in lol Awesome scene
As you say the sky seems a little empty but for the rest, awesome work!! Luv those curly clouds
It took me some time to figure out the meaning of the scene. Maybe using a larger scene and giving more dynamism the whole piece could improve a lot, since the "gate" is not the main element and it's not clear, apart from Saddam, who's doing what and why
Apart from that there's nothing more that hasn't previously said: nice palette and consistent style. well done :)
Thanks, that's probably it - and something about his color choices. Darn all you non-color blind people. :)
Well, the 'clouds' do look a lot like the 'steam' from his P.O.D. piece. And the colors are very similar, if he didn't actually borrow any from that piece either.
But he does have that nice, clean, style.
Doesn't look like snow to me - if I was going to pick something which wasn't a cloud, I'd say it made me consider the possibility that Heaven is built entirely on the immense beard of God, or some such. Perhaps it could be fluffier and less like strands. That's it, though, I think it's a marvellous idea.
Definitely looks like a Work of Inq, but I don't know what gave it away yet.
indeed, i thought it was a bit snowy too. i think it's because the clouds are really flat. put some fluff in them, some bumps?
Ouch. My pride is taking a real hit here. It's not supposed to be snow! :P It's very clear that I've got that bit totally wrong then. I was hoping the swirls would help separate it from snow.
THIS IS AWESOME, loving the snow, and the colors, i like the cartoon style OMG!!
The clouds reminds me of tomic's. Anyway, I must agree with all the positive comment already written here. Brilliant. Will you improve this, now that there is no time-running challenge?
cool. nice colors, nice style... i like the texture of the snow :)
oh sorry... is it a cloud? nice, anyway!
just another motherfuk american, sorry but where is the american representant should have more than one, to represent all your sick influece country ...
Wow. I didn't expect it to be considered like Fool's.
Thanks for the positive feedback guys. I'm not too happy with the piece as I really had to rush it before the end. The 32 colour palette limitations really made me struggle but I reckon I could've got it looking much tidier if I had more time. I would've completely changed the palette to make it look far crisper and clearer. As it stands, I think the whole piece is a bit blurred and messy, especially in the areas that I just jumped through as quickly as possible. There's other bits that are clearly rushed, like the "Pearly Fence" next to Napolean. That thing could pretty much be climbed up and over which doesn't make much sense. Also, I didn't give it any anti-aliasing to the sky background. I would've preferred to make the sky more detailed as well.
Thanks about the colours, JAlonso. To be honest, I'm mostly getting lucky with them, especially on this one. I could've done them so much better with more time because right now I think a lot of them are a right mess. This is quite a cleaned up version, one of the earlier ones had the most ghastly mix of colours that could be imagined. It was a tough balancing act to find shades that fit over all of the different colours. For a competition with limited colours, making so many characters with different coloured uniforms, the sky, the clouds, the bricks, the stone...it was probably a foolish project, but I couldn't really change the colours of their uniforms without losing their identities. (It's Napolean, Saddam and Hitler, by the way).
Elk: Hm, I thought I used the dithering sparingly. When I come around to fixing it up with a new version, I may look into dropping the 32 colour limit and clearing it up to remove most of the dithering and making the whole thing cleaner.
Dex: Yeah, the clouds are a bit creamy. I did the same on the steam on my last piece as well. I do like it but it's not really what I would've gone for. I'm going to have to do a bit of studying on that. I do like the parts where it connects with the structures and feet though.
Unfortunately, Stickman, I didn't get it finished in time. The big proper gate got cut (it would've been behind Napolean. Napolean was going to be with Blackbeard with a ladder to, but since that got cut I had to do some rearranging. Had I got time, I probably would've done Hitler motioning Napolean fowards since I had to rethink the scene.
Thanks for the feedback guys.
Clouds are kinda weird :V
Looks great though. Makes me wanna pixel people now ;D
Glad to see you got it done on time:) Lovely idea and great colours.
I like it. Saddam is great. Is that supposed to be Hitler?
Maybe the attendant's head could be lower to see the halo better and hitler could gesture napolean to come forward. dog's halo should light the surroundings more. but great piece!
how would it not be for the weekly challenge?
great work as always. i'm with jal here: beautiful colors, has that "fool" feel to it (always a compliment)
This is amazing, Inq. Can't wait for you to 'finish' it.
Very great quality of work, superb pixelling. I see no flaws.
And nice 'twist' on the idea. =]
Also very reminiscent of some of Fool's pieces, but enough difference to be distinguished. That's definitely not a bad thing.
Very fool-ish.
A great job and sooo very clever.
E: I am beginning to seriously respect your color choices in all your work.
I don't know, the clouds're one of the best bits about this piece. It's very "Inquisitorish", and that's a pro in my book.
