http://xs140.xs.to/xs140/09253/edit234.gif words weren't working, only a tiny shift :).
And wow, I would never have guessed the musical definition for canon, and arcane is still an adjective having little to do with magic :P. It actually has a lot to do with boxes (arcs). In the broader sense it's synonymous with esoteric. Either way it's an adjective :). It's like kinda naming a class "quick" or "green." I'm not saying that the names aren't logical, I'm saying that if you need to explain what name means, it's probably not the best name (example : FFT oracle, or half of the DnD magic classes). Something like Muse or Herald or even Hymnist or Psalmist would give better clues. Arcane would do fine as wizard, conjurer, mage, magus (in the non-zoroastrian sense), witch, etc.
You already have everything you need. Use the highlight color from the hair to define the bodies, and adjust that brown so that it works for both.
Jalonso: Yes, I worked on them separately. I think the only materials in common are the metal and the skin. I am checking out right now the Noobtorial on color, palette and materials, so I can put a little bit of contrast. It looks pretty flat so far.
I don't fully understand what you mean by the two pixel butt... Do you mean broader hips? If that's the case, I shall try it. Now that I look closer, the Canon Monk looks famished.
I got the idea of the defender from Hockey Goalies. It looks pretty much like a tank class, and I am pretty pleased with it.
About the names, well, yes, I got some influence from DnD. The Arcane is a student of arcane magic arts. And Canon, well, I got it from quire singing. Like when a person starts singing "Frere Jacques", and then another one joins with offset. The idea is to have a support battle spell like the song of the bards, but the effect is multiplied by the number of characters "singing the same song". But all that is just Game Design details...
The order of class types is: Naked, Melee Attacks based on STR, Melee based on AGI, Support, Melee based on AGI, Tank based on STR, and Magic Attacks based on INT, so you got that pretty much right.
Thanks for the feed :)
I suggest giving them about a two-pixel butt and having the closer leg join up part of the way to meet it. at first i thought it was only half the characters that would benefit from this but then i realized that the difference is that the soldier, blademaster and defender all have stuff around that section which distracts from the missing mass. These are great and it's not a necessity but if you try padding that bottom you might be glad you did.
Defender is by far your best design.
Arcane might benefit from a different name (it's really just a latin adjective, and despite the DnD rebranding of it as a word has little to do with magic and is mostly related to secrecy. Ninjitsu is arcane, heck even mom's potato pie recipe is arcane in the sense that it is hidden as though in a box). Canon monk sounds cool but suffers from being cryptic as well as being a double-noun where canon (unlike, say, battle) has working adjective forms (canonized, canonical, sainted).
Where it comes into play is that the roles of a class should be fairly clear. right now it reads Attack, Offensive Support, healer? (best guess), Fast attacker, Defender, magic attacker. Not being able to tell what that 3rd class is for by look or by name makes a difference and I'm not fully confident in some other assumptions.
In all though nice work :D.
Nice set :)
59 colors seemed crazy. I suppose you made them sepeartely and combined them later. Most colors are really dupes with microscopic variations.
Chi chi chibi!
