Looks great and those are some impressive fins.

I agree it's a bit crunchy. Was one of the problems when I tried to animate it. I think I need to symplify that, the fin a bit, not like size, but the detail work around the edges.

There's a couple of books available at Hobby Lobby (or any of the craft store, I suppose), that are great stepping stones into animation. The books are called Animation 1/2 with Preston Blair.

They're not pixel related, but the tutorials and examples, are still pretty helpful.

Very nice colors. But a merman? seems a little odd. I think you should work on the hair, as that is probably going to be one of the hardest places to fix because of how small the head is.
