Thanks for replying. And thank you for the birthing scene.
First off yes, the head, at least the shape of it, is based off an official piece of art, but it's shaded completely different. I gotta say, there were a lot of things that I didn't understand. >.< But most of the things are the reason I want to do this in the first place, because I need to get better at them.
You were talking about having a dynamic pose, but I don't really know what you mean, isn't dynamic something other than walking? I don't really see what could be changed here, because I want to keep the same side prospective, and in a walking pose. Could you point out what anatomical errors you see?
Lighting also, I essentially just lit it how I thought it would look with those shapes and that lightsource. It would help if you could say what should be changed, and more importantly, why/how you know that it should be changed.
I don't suppose there are any advanced online tutorials for things like this? Most tutorials i find are basic and uninformative.
EDIT: thanks BaB, I'm glad you guys like the colors, I wasn't sure about them.
Easily your best work as far as atmosphere is concerned. Nice colours too.
lol
I've never thought of pokemon being pregnant before...I imagine it would make for a pretty sweet pokemon episode though.
"Misty! Cc come look!" Ash exclaims. Misty hurriedly runs over to Ash, hunched over Pikachu on the floor. "What's all the fuss about?!" she asks. "Pp pp Pikachu is pregnant!" ... "Pikachu's a she?!"
9 months later...
"Push Pikachu, push!!"
Pikachu, spread eagle on the pokétable, at the pokéhospital, clenching Ash's hand with its stubby tyranosaurus arms. "Piiiiiiiikaaaaaaa...." the grubby little paws grip harder. "iiiikkaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhh" a painful grimace comes across Ash's face as if Pikachu's nails were forged by Thor himself. "Chuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!!!!" A blast of lightning indicative of absolute creation throttles the room illuminating the glorious spectacle that just occured...
"It's a boy!" Ash proclaims.
In all seriousness though, the shading of the head is ace. However, the body suggests a poor understanding of form/anatomy, and its pose suggests a lack of knowledge surrounding perspective, form/anatomy again(non-dynamic poses suggest that they are done methodically and typically illuminate persistent anatomical errors), and volume/depth. To a lesser extent the lighting on the body is not very dynamic and very formulaic. Although I feel that some of this has to do with general nature in which the body was drawn. Would I be wrong in supposing that you used a reference for the head and followed it more closely than any references you may have used for the body?
Anyway, I like the piece alright. The colors are pretty neat, and the head, as I said, is great. I think that you should consider pursuing the subjects I listed off in the last paragraph. They will help your art out greatly. One last thing to think about is composition. This piece could have carried a lot more weight if portrayed right.
There's my attempt to fix the leg, I'm working on the bone now.
Edit: Redid the bone, better?
Go back to the forum, and fix his damn furthest leg.
It's wayyy too long, it's longer then his other leg even while bent it's longer.
I have to say I love it :) It's a very well done job! and very smooth!
nice
