I really like this piece a lot, and I like the style in  general.  Tha black really adds  definition to it, and makes it pop.  But I have an issue with the amount of colors you used and how similar some of those colors are.  Especially in the hair and the colors inside the ears.  There's at least three or four shades of grey that all look like white from a distance.  I know that the limit is 256, and you can use as many as you'd like, but it seems like the piece would really come to life if you used your colors more consciously.  As an example, this piece (though smaller than yours) has the same kind of feel to it that yours has, but only uses 13 colors:
