@hatch: i started with pixelart in the mid. 80s. It was the time when Atari STe and Amiga 500 dominated the market. Back then i used the top: pixel program, which was "Neochrome master" on the Atari ST. The program allows 16 out of 4096 colors. I did not (!) do any pixelpainting for about 10 years now.... :(
PC Steem Engine is an emulator for the Atari STe.
I am still looking for a clever alternative to this "oldtimer" combination. Can you recommend Grafx2?
I've never used Neochrome Master, but GrafX2 is indeed quite nice. It's very very similar to DPaint/Brilliance on Amiga, which you're probably at least passingly familiar with. It allows 256 colors out of a truecolor palette. You should give it a try :)
