This whole piece was an exersize. Not so much to improve my skills, althought that is important, but more to see if I have the patience to commit to something extremely long, tedious, and painstakingly boring. X_X

720 frames of animation later I would like to think "yes"! XD

Not quite the 10,000 frame masterpiece I had in mind, but this will have to do... for now. XD

No if you'll excuse me, I'm going to give my poor eyes and wrist a break. XD

If I saw it not in your gallery I would think it's programming.

user
Zizka (Level 10 Deep Blue) @ 11/6/2014 11:11

Don't! The negative reaction is part of the experiment itself!

user
greenraven (Level 2 Hired Gun) @ 11/6/2014 08:10

Thank you. I wish more people saw it like you. XD

user
Zizka (Level 10 Deep Blue) @ 11/6/2014 07:17

I like this too.

You've made a statement with your art and to prove it, people are reacting to it. It's making people react that you've ''wasted'' your time. It makes people upset, because time is culturally precious and should only be used to do productive things. We need to produce, we are obsessed with being productive because that's what we've been brainwashed to do. Produce to become better, always more.

Here the process is more important than the final result. Keep it up.

user
greenraven (Level 2 Hired Gun) @ 10/7/2013 00:07

Thanks. It's nice to know that people appreciate art for what it is and not by how fancy the techinques were that made it. Part of the problem with the negative comments is that there's an elitist element here on Pixel Joint that tends to alienate people who aren't on par with "the rest" of the gallery. Certain people think highly of themselves and they tend to push that on everyone else. Conform or die so to speak.

But anyway, thanks for the kind words. It really helps with motivation and confidence to not have your work pissed on simply because it's not the Mona Lisa.

nedink (Level 1 Intern) @ 10/6/2013 23:30

I don't remember how I got here but I've read through the comments and frankly I'm astonished by what I've seen. Let me tell you my opinion, whether or not you care by this point.  To me, this is impressive.  Its currently on 4:27 and I can't believe it's still going.  I love to be amazed by things that people can do, and when I see something like this that was spent so much time and patience on, it's clear that it is an accomplishment, because I have the same reaction to peices that have no animation but the peice is really good because people spent just as long on it.  What matters to me is the apparent effort that goes into a peice, and without this mindset, many people (some of these commenters included) prabably can't appreciate a lot of the greats, like Mondrian or Pollock.  It's amazing to me that we have so many experienced artists here who are so frustratingly ignorant.

Creative, I love it !

user
KittenMaster (Level 4 Deputy) @ 6/1/2011 14:03

I was able to see it reset, but part of that was trying to come up with proper comment.

user
greenraven (Level 2 Hired Gun) @ 6/1/2011 06:44

Thanks. I still can't believe I actually made this thing. X_X

Also I have yet to hear a single person proclaim that they were bold enough to watch it long enough to see it reset. XD

user
KittenMaster (Level 4 Deputy) @ 6/1/2011 00:34

I know this piece was from 2009, but I think whatever effort it took to leave an impression on people way back when is success in my eyes.

It took me awhile to find a comment to make about this piece and it still hasn't ended.

Oreo0000 (Level 2 Flatfoot) @ 10/4/2010 15:05

I really like this. Simple yet creative.

user
greenraven (Level 2 Hired Gun) @ 9/9/2010 15:10

Thanks everyone. XD

user
HCGamer (Level 2 Quiet One) @ 8/28/2010 10:51

I think this is fantastic. Sure, it's boring for sure. But hey, if you had fun doing it, isn't that the point of art?

user
JWM (Level 1 Rookie) @ 6/14/2010 12:29

You should have made it go through 12 hours as well. :D

But it's good that you had enough patience to complete something like this. This looks like a real digital clock. Very nice details!

user
Dino502Run (Level 6 Serial Killer) @ 12/29/2009 11:59

That's amazing

user
greenraven (Level 2 Hired Gun) @ 12/13/2009 07:35

Actually, I did fail. The original version of this animation had a critter running around the clock. I couldn't seem to draw him without making him look retarded on 1 frame, let alone 720. So I took him out and just kept the clock. XD

user
NaCl (Level 3 Hatchet Man) @ 12/13/2009 03:18

Bah! You just made this cause you knew you couldn't fail. Be bold, be brave, and just admit that the only way to get good is to face the challenge head on and fail over and over. You keep trying to juke it.

user
ptoing (Level 7 Cuttlefish) @ 10/6/2009 11:28

Heh, just recreated this in Promotion to see how long it would take. 13 minutes.

user
smk (Level 6 Hitman) @ 8/25/2009 15:55

Haha, man, keep them coming! ;D

Nice job mate. Gave me a laugh ;3

user
greenraven (Level 2 Hired Gun) @ 8/25/2009 13:59

Thank you. ^_^

You know, it's funny, I actually considered of only making this thing just a handful of frames and see if anyone would actually sit through the whole thing and tell me "Hey this thing doesn't go all the way back to twelve, what kind of clock is this?!" XD

user
Manjaman (Level 8 Cannibal) @ 8/25/2009 12:09

The interest doesn't lie in the piece but in the concept : it's very impressive, and the proof is that people overeacted and said "you wasted your time, etc". I think that piece is puzzling : maybe there are only 30 frames in his animation, and nobody is ready to wait and count, and that would be useless. Make me think to this artist who put shit in closed boxes and who sold it for astronomical price. Maybe these boxes were empty, but what is important is the concept, just the concept !

Great work Raven =)

user
Hapiel (Level 11 Bonsai) @ 8/23/2009 06:18

'but please don't make it sound like I pulled something out of my ass in ten seconds.'

You did, and then worked the rest of those hours on it with your eyes closed.

There are soo much better ways to have spend that time, but you could only have thought of those if you spend more than 10 seconds on the idea.

user
ellie-is (Level 5 Assistant Manager) @ 8/8/2009 06:47

They  upload stuff for others to see it. =P

user
greenraven (Level 2 Hired Gun) @ 8/7/2009 18:56

Why does anyone upload anything? XD

And Rayo, yeah, yeah, yeah, I get it, you don't like it. XD

user
ellie-is (Level 5 Assistant Manager) @ 8/7/2009 18:45

Well, I guess that if you made this just for you and not for the others to like, then its fine.

But if it was just to prove something to yourself, why upload it? =P

user
Raytheon (Level 5 Lieutenant) @ 8/7/2009 18:42

hey everyone i can use the fill tool for 720 frames!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

user
greenraven (Level 2 Hired Gun) @ 8/7/2009 11:53

That's fine with me. I made this to prove something to myself, and I did. :D

If people don't like, I can't put a gun to their head, now can I? XD

user
ellie-is (Level 5 Assistant Manager) @ 8/7/2009 08:19

I think you spent all those hours on this for no reason. I mean, its not like anyone is going to look at all the 720 frames. It gets tiring to look at after a while, and most people will just watch it for 20 seconds, and get bored =/

user
greenraven (Level 2 Hired Gun) @ 8/7/2009 04:29

Thank you. :D

user
Green_Hell (Level 2 Flatfoot) @ 8/7/2009 03:51

I think it's a good experiment. I do admire your patience when creating this.

user
THE KAPPTIN (Level 5 Captain) @ 8/6/2009 18:29

It's a hilarious piece of conceptual art.

user
jamesmorrow07 (Level 1 Jukyu) @ 8/6/2009 15:18

That's awesome!

user
A.B. Lazer (Level 3 Private Eye) @ 8/6/2009 13:38

I think that it could be a fantastic addition to bigger piece to actually have ticking clock in it, and basing some scene or mechanism around it.

user
greenraven (Level 2 Hired Gun) @ 8/6/2009 12:55

Tomic & TINC, all art is different to different people. Boring? Maybe, everyone has their tastes and opinions.

But "waste of time" is really a subjective term. Since I clearly saw fit to sit through for god knows how many hours trying to finishing this, clearly I beg to differ on the 'waste of time' part. XD

No one says you have to like it, but please don't make it sound like I pulled something out of my ass in ten seconds. XD

user
cure (Level 11 Pixellite) @ 8/6/2009 11:45

I'm afraid I'm with tomic on this one.

user
NotlikeTheOthers (Level 2 Quiet One) @ 8/6/2009 11:31

 you made me laugh today!

user
Manupix (Level 11 Godzilla) @ 8/6/2009 11:28

You're the next Roman Opalka, no doubt of that.

This is crazy, but I'm afraid I like the idea :-(

user
tomic (Level 11 Admiral) @ 8/6/2009 11:18

even if you're totally into watches, it gets boring after 3 frames. seriously, creating this really was a waste of time.
