It looks like you tried to AA on to a light background, but then you use transparency. When you're using a darker theme it juts out horribly.
Push pull - i tried to play with the button-door theme only because i still can't make cool vignettes or just draw a plus or WHATEVER.
Whaa-ha~~ thanks a lot, Manupix.
It was so righty-right what you told about AA. It's just some horrible deep dark forest and oh my i got LOST someone get me outtaheree! but i frightfully wish that one day i will get it!
Bats! I don't know about bats either - i just sort of thought: "how about trying something like that, something new?" in 85% of such attempts - they turn to be a failure.
And for what else: i badly try to avoid pillows! I just sit mumbling and muttering "must....not....pillow...shade" and still it doesn't help.
Thanx again and have a cookie.
Since you ask, let's go! ;-)
First, I like the colors and the idea.
I don't like the bat things so much, they look static and flat. What are they supposed to be? balloons, live bats, paper bats? At least they should look more bat and less Batman (unless of course she's a Batman fan, stupid me).
The pumpkin is well contrasted and shaded, the girl is more flat. Each of them works well on its own, but not so well together.
Some will say that the pumpkin is pillow-shaded. I won't, I accept it as frontal light, but it could be done better. Get rid of that excess dithering and better stress the ridges shapes with shading.
The pumpkin might also have a better shape, maybe wider and more 8-shaped.
The girl's outlines need improving, esp in the right arm and leg which have long straight lines. The changing outline colors are a good start, but they should change more subtly, following the light.
There is an attempt at AA, but it doesn't do much good. I won't say more about this because I can't do it better myself, but some AA is definitely needed.
Your 2 lightest colors are so close you almost can't see them.
The hair is definitely pillowshaded, and the lateral light on the crown is different from elsewhere.
The shades on the girl could be darker, to match the pumpkin, but this would risk losing the general nice soft touch, so I'm not really sure what to do.
The hands have problems. Why does she show a clenched fist?
That's about it... ;-) and, I like the preview! but why push-pull?
No reason to hate yourself for the girly stuff, just do other stuff too! (biiiiig wink to boys doing boy stuff, hahaha!)
Dr D, oh my oh my, a checked on a deep blue background and yes it is. awful.
