your shading does not give justice to the infinite wonderful possibilites that this egg gives, your lack of contrast make the egg flat, your linear shading also make the egg flat. The Plates looks like a texture applied on the egg. you should try to bump them out by making them extrude out of the edges, also make the whiter part actually darker, and since its metal all the plates has to be shaded uniquely, cause metal reflects light a lot almost since a mirror so when the light hits it it reflect back into our eyes at different angle according to the plate position.

Its a nice try, but it lack a lot, to bring this great idea to life

I like the dithering on this. :P
The only problem is that the main section (not the little plates around it) looks matted and not shiny like the rest of it.
