This was just kind of a random experiment where I did something with no dithering. I wanted it to look pretty much like it does with dithering so there wasnt really any regard for color conservation. I know the lack of legs is kind of weird, the hair is as bit flat and the outer aa is rough but this has been kicking around for a while and just needed to be finishedXD

edit: okay I went back and fixed up the color issue a bit- its gone from 126 colors to 98. I'll probably do more later as well.

There were about 7 or so pics that I referred to from time to time, most just as a check kind of thing. I pretty much always have something I'm looking at whether or not I'm actually using it.

WOW;specially on the dress; it looks Amazing!  you are on another level!!!

SHANN0N (Level 4 Deputy) @ 8/28/2009 19:17

pixelfish- actually, lol it is deinitely 100% pixelled;) There is no automatic aa, no automatic decreasing of the palette, no filters or whatever. It was pixelled only in ms paint. I like the way that tooled things look but I prefer the sharpness, precision and overall process of pixelling. So it was my intention to resemble NPA, but zoomed in I think it becomes much more apparent- theres a clean order to the colors and they're used consistently throughout the piece.

Pixelfish (Level 1 Rookie) @ 8/28/2009 13:19

This is definitely not pure pixelling, but you obviously have a remarkable grasp on color shading and texture. So, kudos, and I'm impressed, but I would like to see something all hand-pixelled, 32 colors or something; the restrictions may actually be good for you.

MashPotato (Level 7 Underboss) @ 8/27/2009 18:26

Lovely stuff

JerryPie (Level 11 Big Foot) @ 8/26/2009 05:25

You're work is so soft, you really are the only one here with the ability to pull off texttiles the way you do. I love looking at your work.

Satsume (Level 10 Capo) @ 8/24/2009 01:24

more real!

great job! =3=7

Helm (Level 5 Detective) @ 8/24/2009 00:48

That's really nice, render-wise. Patience and eye for volumes, good work. I'd be excited to see non-doll work from you.

MeganClare (Level 1 Rookie) @ 8/22/2009 14:06

 gorgeous as always shannon!

tomic (Level 11 Admiral) @ 8/22/2009 08:09

missy elliot's beautiful sister.

awesome piece, except for the bottom.. looks like someone chopped off the doll's legs =)

sharprm (Level 4 Deputy) @ 8/22/2009 00:28

I think it looks fantastic - it looks like everything has really good volume. I don't get why people are concerned about color counts... anyway, her right eye looks like it is looking to her right but then her left eye isn't. Also maybe there is no shading on the forehead above her right eye maybe there should be some.

KwIjL (Level 5 Captain) @ 8/22/2009 00:24

The dress looks so detailed! :D nice work

AngelOTG (Level 1 Rookie) @ 8/22/2009 00:04

The fabric reminds me so much of iLkke's Skeleharp and Dragon Plane. :)

stonewall (Level 1 Thug) @ 8/21/2009 19:50

You always pixel fabric so nicely.

SHANN0N (Level 4 Deputy) @ 8/21/2009 15:01

Adarias-I thought the bottom of the dress was kind of neat looking so thats why I didnt cut it off but I definitely agree about it looking as though the dress wouldnt accomidate legs. I'll probably cut it off in a minute. Thanks:D

SHANN0N (Level 4 Deputy) @ 8/21/2009 14:53

big brother- Fixed up the chin and will get to the aa later.

When I do traditional art it's always extremely realistic. No 'macrocephalic' tendencies to it, with the exception of doodles, although I dont feel that the heads arent in any way exaggerated to the extent that it warrants a term describing a defect, hehe . My traditional stuff is usually pretty much the generic copy type of portraits and full bodies. I'm well capable of making an exact copy with perfect proportions when I have the mind for it but pixel art is pretty much my deviation from realism. Its still there but I like the cartoon like aspects my pixel art has to it- I just feel that it has more style and personality than a lot of my traditional stuff so that's why I do it. It doesnt really have anything to do with my comfort zone^^ As for subject matter, I will definitely try to expand in future pieces but..what can I say, haha? I like pretty women in pretty clothesXD

SHANN0N (Level 4 Deputy) @ 8/21/2009 14:48

Jaeden- I thought the face was the same color as the rest but when I checked you're right it isnt! I dont know when that happenedXD I think I fixed it for the most part though. I went through a lot of the hair too and most of it seemed to match but the hair goes lighter than the dress does so there are probably 4 or 5 additional colors there.  I did take out a few though. And moo!'s style? I've probably seen it before but I cant think of their work atm. I'll have to hunt for it later^^

SHANN0N (Level 4 Deputy) @ 8/21/2009 14:44

Metaru- I dont find it unnatural looking. I dont see what you mean but you're welcome to that opinion, of course. Some will like it, some wont :D

Tipleloop (Level 1 Depressed) @ 8/21/2009 14:29

wow it look smooth :O

wenruto (Level 5 Killer Klown) @ 8/21/2009 11:15

So beautiful i don't believe my eyes ^_^  looks a lil like a 3d pic  =D

Semmu (Level 1 Private) @ 8/21/2009 10:51

huhh its pixel art? :D
seems like it isnt.

susuwataris (Level 6 Yonkyu) @ 8/21/2009 10:23

KittenMaster (Level 4 Deputy) @ 8/21/2009 10:16

Clothing folds are amazing.

RollerKingdom (Level 7 Mass Murderer) @ 8/21/2009 10:05

OMG THIS IS AWESOME :D the folds are awesome!

Adarias (Level 11 Bonsai) @ 8/21/2009 09:00

macrophaly is a gross overstatement I think, or more like it applies to real humans with disproportioned heads and not cartoon humans with exaggerated (but otherwise healthy) proportions.  Illustration has a lot more leeway before you can start throwing around medical terms, because the eye accepts exaggerations as normal within the context of the piece :P.

the lack of legs bug me because I don't think that the form of the dress is allowing for them here, and that's more distracting than any proportional thing.  It's gorgeous otherwise.

big brother (Level 11 Admiral) @ 8/21/2009 08:50

The folds on the dress are exquisite! Your attention to detail shines through this piece!

Her skin is smooth to the point that it accentuates the rough spots like the jagged outer AA around the arms and the fuzzy chin. It'd be nice to see you work outside of your comfort zone and experiment with different subject matter. Maybe try applying realistic human proportions to your dolls, since most of them tend towards macrocephalia. It's daunting, but it really helps one grow artistically.

Jaeden (Level 4 Team Leader) @ 8/21/2009 07:25

This image is broken into 126 colors used.

The face is quite lovely but its the dress that I find most alluring. The Pallet must have been developed in seperate sections as the face does not match any colors on the chest / arms.  That accounts for at least 15 additional colors. Same thing with the hair, You could have adjusted colors to match the black portion of the dress itself and probably knocked your pallet down (with out loosing an ounce of quality) to approx 86 colors.

Any references used? Its insanely smooth and remminiscant of Moo!'s style this time as it has no dithering.

Christoballs (Level 7 Neanderthal) @ 8/21/2009 07:06

Very smooth! How many colours though?

Photocopier (Level 11 Godfather) @ 8/21/2009 06:56

I knew this was your work :)

onek (Level 6 Hitman) @ 8/21/2009 05:52

wow! the shading is just superb! especially the draping, awsome skills :O

Metaru (Level 8 Brigadier General) @ 8/21/2009 05:29

there is something about the image i really dislike. and its probably the way the arms are placed, wich to my opinion is quite unnatural, considering the image wants to portrait the opposite.
