Those who frequent the competitive pokemon battling site Smogon should recognize this critter immediately. This is the premier creation of the Create-A-Pokemon project, an ongoing experiment to create new pokemon for the competitive scene to better understand the metagame.

After a series of community based polls, the final creation was unveiled, heralding not only he first completed Pokemon, but also kicking off a fantastic project that is still going strong!

I do agree with Nightmare Maker, you did go heavy on the outline, but my favorite pokemon is scyther and this does bear a resemblance to him... fav

fuzzly98 (Level 2 Quiet One) @ 4/19/2010 09:23

nice with the thins on its back

Nightmare Maker (Level 8 Regional Boss) @ 9/3/2009 08:57

Awesome concept, I just think you went a bit too crazy with the highlited outline parts. Still, 7/7 XD

Complex (Level 1 Thug) @ 9/2/2009 08:26

i would love to see this guy in a new pkmn game.

orenshtiv (Level 7 Ichikyu) @ 9/2/2009 07:17

orenshtiv (Level 7 Ichikyu) @ 9/2/2009 06:21

nice! i have an idea for a pokemon too :D

KittenMaster (Level 4 Deputy) @ 9/2/2009 04:33

So good to see a Pokemon sprite that *isn't* a cut & paste of two existing Pokemon put together.

Tyvon (Level 2 Corporal) @ 9/2/2009 03:49

I remember this on tSR! Great job (:

KoA (Level 3 Stalker) @ 9/1/2009 13:59

Thanks, I appreciate it!

It's fun how my "to be approved" pixel piece is the one with the most activity so far! haha.

I think I'm gonna like this place.

greenraven (Level 1 Gangster) @ 9/1/2009 12:15

In that case, you've done a hell of a job. You've got my vote.

KoA (Level 3 Stalker) @ 9/1/2009 11:01

I assure you every pixel is 100% custom made and scratched. Any pokemon sprites I put up here are. The CaP project's goal is to create new and unique pokemon and the sprite competitions only allow scratches.

I share your views on the travesties of the basic edits and recolors. :(

Here's the original Syclant sketch I made to prove my point. Most of my sprites are drawn beforehand in this manner, as I'm a very reference-reliant person.

greenraven (Level 1 Gangster) @ 9/1/2009 05:13

So this is an original sprite?

Because most of the pokemon submissions we get are just edits / recolors / traces / rips / etc, which are against the rules.

I just want to point out that I don't know much about pokemon, but I'm pretty much used to seeing pokemon submissions being abominations against the rules. So I just want to apologize in advance if this is an original.

KoA (Level 3 Stalker) @ 9/1/2009 02:20

It's funny, I had this piece completed for over a year and a half and NEVER bothered to fix the outlines.

LAaaazy KoA. :(

kvetacek (Level 7 Sheriff) @ 9/1/2009 02:02

It seems to be a bit jaggy  - maybe you could make it a bit smoother? :x :)

Good job though! :)
