I've done quick but heavy reedit.
http://www.ljplus.ru/img4/p/i/pinwizz/Aldo_Chiummo_C64ship_heavy_reedit.gif
I deleted most of the dithering because dithering is used to show rough surface, - it would be good on asteroid.
The thing that i DIDN't change, but definitely would are colors. Blue and grey blends with black background and they are hard to see, so what viewer actually sees are only white highlights. And player's ship must be bright enough to be always distinctive from a background.
If you wonder why I drew this or that - ask and I'll explain.
Thanks again!!!
About the cockpit, having just 3 colours available and little space I didn't know where to put it, so I didn't draw it at all. But in the future I'll try to design the ships better... :)
Yeah, image that looks like a game has so much appeal.
For the future - note that spaceship should have cockpit or there is a big chance that it will look just like cock! I'd suggest to find clear screenshots from Galaga, Star Force or whatever top-down shootters you like and make some derivative designs on spaceships from them just for practice. That way you'll see what works and what not.
Thanks for the suggestion! :)
Actually those sprites were rejected, so I'll try to make a bigger picture with many more sprites! :)
Posting sprites one by one in this resolution is not very interesting - maybe make a simple mockup which would feature all of them?
Thank you very much for your time, Lazer! Your reedit is awesome, and your suggestions very helpful... I added dithering because I wanted more shades, and that was the only way I could do it because of the 3 colour limitation, but I should have used that space to add more details to the ship...
I hope to find more spare time to draw (after a longer design phase, this time) more sprites...
