These graphics were made for the purpose of getting hired by a development team. You know, those graphics developers will ask you to make as a test before they hire you. Apparently the game's direction changed, so I guess no one that applied got the job.

I tried to not spend too much time on these graphics though, since I was still job hunting at the time, so everything here took just 4 hours. But even then, I designed the background so that the rock tiles can effectilvey tile together and make walls. I think if I aimed to put more time in on the sample graphics, I would have made the backdrop a bit more interesting.

I also have no idea what is freaking out about. :P Could be anything... a dinosaur, or a butterfly. They asked to see some background work, and animation work, so this is the animation I went with. A good running animation seems to take longer for me to do, and I honestly think this one is just more interesting.

Also, I agree with you about running animations; but my portfolio had 2 (might have had 3), so I didn't think it was something I needed to spend the time on. Like, to do it properly, might take 6 hours or more (though, even that depends on HOW he's running), and I just didn't want to put THAT much time into- I guess you'd call them application graphics. Honeslty, this was the first time a potential client ever asked for that much work (most ask for just a sprite/sprite design as the application graphic). If they had agreed to compensate me for that time, I would have probably done more detailed and complex stuff; but at that time, I litterally couldn't really afford to pour a lot of time into something that wouldn't yeild any cash.

But now I'm just rambling. >.>

I think that:

1. It looks great! I'd hire you just to see more!

2. Running/walking animation is the main thing that teams are wanting an animator for - because every game needs one and because even terrific background or splash-screen artist can't do it without proper learning. So showing GOOD walking or running must be a great advantage.

 Awesome. I think thay maybe the cloud could use some lighter colors on it as well, but this is pretty awesome anyway.
