The animation is astounding, I'm very much interested in this game you're working on. I do hope to see something about it in the future.
You did a great job. I like the way you made his face with the long nose and the animation is quite good overall.
My only critique for you is that I don't quite like the wavy energy/speed lines that wisp up as he's drawing the sword up for the downward slash... it would be better, I think, if it were just blurred, like with lines parallel to the sword, if you know what I mean.

Took a while to make out the face, I didn't expect such a big head. The shield goes from square to round during the anim. Do the horns on the helmet point forward during the first swing? All very well done.
This worked out pretty well... I never thought such a small character could move with the fluidity and detail that it does.
Nice animation though I don't like the actual sprite anywhere near as much as your other one.
face was a bit hard to read at first, especially with it getting covered completely by the shield for so long and often, and it's a bit hard to follow his arms, it seems, particularly when the blade goes behind the head.
the actual motion and rendering etc is all real sweet, though.

Very fluid animation, excellent inertia carried throughout.
Nice anim and the effects are really good especially on the first hit.
My one comment is that the second hit comes from a pose that doesn't seem to show any anticipation.
