@Qube: Don't get your panties in a bunch! If you read my post more carefully, you might notice "@all". This was a response to previous posters. This issue is greater than your piece alone and I need to have things clarified wheteher submission rule #6 is still in effect or if it is now ok to algorithmically produce images.
Hey dawnbringer, i tried to discuss this with you on a private basis and i thought the exchange had helped. But you haven't learned a thing. I'm sorry that my work annoys you that much. Feel free to ignore it. You admitted that you like the image so I really don't understand why you are so small-minded. If the admins say that it's a no go, okay. But you are not the admin.
I won't leave because of you. sorry
@all
Submisson rule #6.
"Any art you post should be PIXEL ART! Pixel art implies that each pixel is placed by hand (no filters, paintbrushes, gradient fills, etc)."
Something has to go...
360° is no problem at all. Though the outlines are. They have to be made by hand.
Have a look at my website www.minddesk.com for demo-animations
It'd be interesting if the program could output (like the pic) but rotating 360 degrees. I think it is okay because he is using a program to pixel something he could do by hand anyway, its not like he's posting a complicated fractal.
Qube Commander... gut tag!!!... how do i get your software??? i really WANT IT... or as ilkke said... i can be a beta testar for free aswell! XDDDD. I really wanna do some pixel Qubicle style :XXX. And a plus!... you come from the land of the legos!!! NOT FAIR!!!... jajaja.... anyway i wanna se more like this stuff :DDD. thx for sharing your art and info and also thx for the faved.
@DawnBringer... i dont wanna sound ass... but.... is not the pixel art something that comes from computers aswell?... in any case, the models looks very pixeled or whatever you want to call it, cuz they are made it from cubes from scratch i dont see anithing wrong. And if i can add your last comment sounds more like an epic-ethernal-war, against ppl who do art who can easily fix into pixel-art. I would like to hear than more ppl evole and understand this kind of art, as me and many ppl do. (sorry im not an ass, dont hate me )
About the palett, its look like some math-like palett.
I use it a lot on iso pixels, get a color and add or subtract about 20(subtle)~60(harsh) from brightness to get each shade...
Thanx, I'm happy to know that I can post gfx generated with my various computer-code from here on...
I don't see anything wrong. I agree looks like Katamari; I like it.
hello and thanks for the comments. this image was meant to be an experiment. i'm not a true conventional pixel-artist, that's for sure. If dawnbringer, or any other, complains about it, i'm not in the position to argue. i respect all the works that are posted here. i truely love pixel-art.
but i do things my way. i developed my own software to render pixel-art in 3d. because pixel-joint doesn't allow to post images in more than 256 colors I tried to reduce the color-palette and mix it with tradional pixel-art. i don't know what "non human design palette" could mean. I like the result and i think that's ok.
this is a finish of a 3d model that can be displayed from any angle you like, so you must admit that there's an undoutable advantage to this kind of pixel-art.
@DawnBringer: What? Are you suggesting that trans-dimensional aliens designed his palette?
Also, what is wrong with pattern fill? Perhaps using grid is also a no-no in your book?
* "Render"
* Pattern-fill
* Non-human designed palette
Maybe I'm misunderstanding the process...but this doesn't seem quite right! I want to see a full WIP.
Very nice! Great design and great program as well.
For quite a while I've been periodically checking to see if Qubicle has been released, but no luck so far.
Perhaps you can release the current version to the public, so you can get feedback?
I for one volunteer to betatest :D
No problems with this type of process, imo. The 'pre' work was making the ref layer to pixel from and he created the image and then pixelled it purely.
It does seem like a waste as mentioned below. Its all boxes and could have been made without a ref but :\
Was editing easier than usual making iso from scratch? I'm asking because, for example, if you tracing from a photo and don't use any layers, it is very hard and unrewarding process with lots of cleaning up, so starting from scratch is a lot easier.
Damn! I love this, and I'm drooling over that soft! Want it!!!
Thanks for making it and sharing the news!
I would say it's still pixelart, esp since you have to pixel the layers of the 3D models in Qubicle. It's more like voxels.
@db: Algorithmically? It's not like he coded something that then generated something based on that code. He still had to pixel the layers of the 3D models (which is how Qubicle works iirc). The most boring step in any iso work is construction anyway, and at the same time it can be done by any monkey with half a brain. So where lies the problem if one goes and speeds the construction step up a bit by using 3D?
