By straight on, do you mean pointing 'out' toward you or perpendicular to you?
And does depth of certain areas mean this ship can be stood upon by game characters?
In a lot of 2D games you will see objects that appear to be completely straight on, but have objects on them that look like they're at a slight angle. This is just to make sure you can see the depth of certain areas for both gameplay and stylistic purposes.
This is terrific, with clean lines and quick-reading textures/shading. I also like the style (I'm one of those people who thinks 'cartoony' is one of the highest complements an art piece can get).
I have a question about the perspective, though. If you were to be looking down on this from above, the back end, with the engine, appears to be on the east/west plane, and the front end appears to be on the SW/NE plane. Is this a purposeful effect of the style? If so, please bin this question (and colour me embarrassed)!
