There is no diagonal, the game considers these guys as facing straight left-right.  The turn is to make them more informative and less rigid, similar to how most sidescollers work.  you can find a similar stance to most characters in chrono trigger.

Cool little character. Are you going to make the two going diagonal-up?

I really like the cap and backpack, the L shape highlight on the shirt front-view needs to be less saturated but otherwise the colors are really nice. The broken black outline on the facing-west version and shape of the face looks wrong.

Realy cool, feels DSish. But I think it would be even better if you put in those two diagonal backwards ;P

Wow Adarias. Your work has never not impressed me. Every single piece you have done is amazing.

cap is actually mirrored in the frontways and right-facing, not the two sides, the reason because if the cap were worn further sideways in the right frame it would cover the eyes is an ugly fashion.

made a few small tweaks to make the side views morew clearly side views, do the still frames help show how things go?

It's just typical 4 directions, the two sides are just turned slightly to give us more information and to make things seem less static/fixed towards the cardinal points.  I may have overshot?

I think the confusing part is that he wears his cap "sideways" when looking down, but the two diagonal views have it mirrored, as if he was wearing it straight.

The directions look a bit odd to me.  The left/right facing ones look isometric, but the front/back ones don't so much
(perhaps because the position of the feet changes?)  Still top-notch stuff, though.
