But it's not 81 ) I'll try to make it less, it's interesting for me.

All pixelart I was made before were for the black and white 1bit MacSE, for the Doom fan game Doom2D: Forever (with 32bit color depth) and for some websites (PNG8, PNG24). I can use less colors, but prefer to do it for a puprose.

52 colors is never "just" ;)

Ok,  you convinced me, I'll make a less colorful version later for updating my skill.

And now I see another bugs - fingerss anatomy is wrong, head is too small(?), not impressive bands on shoulder plates.

P.S. It is just 52 colors on right avatar, not 81. Right is remake of Left.

dithering is still pointless since its not really ading any texture but rather make it look grainy, as if it was made of wool. if you're aiming for texture, i recomend you a better pattern than the standard checkboard one.

color conservation is actually derived from color restrictions imposed by early limitations in technology, such as video game and computer graphics, but nowdays is also a well recieved skill that most pixel artist are in constant developing. the reason behiond this is simple: the less colors you're able to use, the better you will understand them and the better results you will be able to achieve. certainly PNG8 format allows you to use 256 colors(and also, its a somehow top on how many you should ever use or be allowed to), but it doesnt mean in any case that you should use 256 colors.

this color conservation isn't just a fancy, rubish 'tradition' among spirters/pixelartist. it has proven that it really improves your technique and also helps you develop more as an artist, not only by making stuff look better, but also because it certainly 'expands' your vision on how things like shading work around. a better understanding of colors does nothing but help you develop more elaborated and complex works.

I was not think about number of colors, it's not a NES sprite, it's just avatar for web.

With PNG-8 I can use 256 colors, with PNG-24 more.

Dithering works more as facture. Bullet proof vest coated with a sort of textile, helmet is textured too. Skin is not dithered.

Maybe I'll make a less colors version later, if it is so necessary.

the dithering is so pointless, specially considered you stuffed over 81 colors in such a small piece.
