the c64 only had widepixels in multicolor mode, which allows 3colors per 4x8px tile and 1 global bg color... but i didnt concider that in my edit... yes it was a fixed 16 color palette... one of the best digital palettes that there is imo
Thanks onek ! I started trying to reduce the colors and dropped 8... I am just having trouble giving up those blues. I fooled around with the woman's legs and made her stand on more of a horizontal. The idea is the lil guys on right will troop across to the left, so they need room ~ and also the idea is there will be possbly two more characters in that left area.
Also I got inolved with the bars and icons. I am thinking of dropping the playr meters and replacing with chord/dischord meter and a exciting/monotonous meter, but what kind of icon to use -
I also added a little shading to the woman, but trying not to blow the silhouette look. Thanks for the input. C64 had wide pixels? Was it a fixed palette?
since i like to do edits and think that this piece has lots of room for improvement i made a dirty edit of it...
my main issue is the perspective.. i think the characters should be aligned on a straight line, otherwise the woman looks way too big... also u should try to work on ur palette, 46 colors are a lot and many of them arent needed because their difference is subtle...in pixel art color conservation is essential, and also alot of fun ;D...
heres the edit: http://i992.photobucket.com/albums/af45/oooonek/singsong.gif
steps : #1 original - #2 reduced colors - #3 composition/ shading - #4 C64 palette / stretched/ widepixels
i decided to go with the wide pixels since i think the picture looks a little stretched upwards otherwise, also it suits the C64 palette and the overall vintage look....
somehow this has a rly strange vintage-esque look... donno exactly why...its flatness and the perspective issues make it look a bit like those antique egyptian illustrations... i think shading and technique stuff (jaggyness, color count etc) could be improved, but anyhow... i kinda like this...
Thanks! Too funny, I thought is might be 'too trendy' since it had a musical theme, or for that matter angels and demons...
To say that it's weird is an understatement. But seems that it was done with care and it looks good. I voted 'yes'.
ok, 27 colors.
