the white background aside, the piece itself suffers from a lack of form, three-dimensionality, discernable light source, et al
i'd begin by getting shape down correctly, using reference images, then trying to express form, worrying about colors and designs at the end. however, the most beneficial thing for you to do is get back to the basics, dust off the ol' drawing pad, and practicepracticepractice (contour line, working from life, the works). you could learn the basics through pixelart, but it'd be much more difficult and counterproductive.
