Yeah I gotta fix this, it lacks contrast in the dark parts and it confuses what each part is supposed to be.
this is kinda cool xD only I'm not seeing how the arm with the blade is shaped, and I can't get the shape of the tail, it could be worked on a little bit, maybe :/
I've mistaken his elbow for a head, maybe because the black dot looks like an eye.
I agree with bill I was having contrast issues from the begining of this piece xP I should have picked out my colors more carefully... Maybe I'll edit it soon :) I never understood the outlining in Pokemon, so I did my own thing there xP but thanks for the tips, I'm sure to make more in the future and that helps.
The concept is good, but I agree with Badassbill. And I think you should try to make the sword more visible, I thought it was a wing or something, until I saw your reference.
Anyway, I like it, just try and improve it further :)
I'm no expert on Pokémon style, but I'm pretty sure you need more contrast, and should be taking more advantage of the selective outlining (you're also banding in places too).
I've made an edit to help show what I mean:
I could totally see this as being an evolution of a scizor.
