Hi everyone!  I'm a newcomer to Pixel Joint, and this is my very first submission.  This is my third ever attempt at pixel art, so please be gentle.  This guy is based off of a concept I drew at work during an especially painful meeting... I think he really captures the feeling of the moment.

Yes, sure looks good!

Actually I think all the parts are really good, but something doesn't work so well in the whole. Probably to do with anatomy, I can't really help more about that.

The axe might look better if he held it with both hands, without changing his pose.

And yeah, scares me to hell! Where's Paul Bunyan when you need him?

Wow, this is quite good for a first submission! I like his face, the nose and beard is quality. A few suggestions: The feet are at a very awkward angle (try standing that way, it's not comfortable). Try making the feet point more outward instead of to the side. The shape of the arms and hands are a bit blob-y. The shading there doesn't really follow the shape of arms; as is, the hands kind of just meld into his arms, without any wrists. The shading in general could use a more defined light source. This is much better than most first submissions, but there is room for improvement. The most important thing is to be consistent throughout; it's easy to notice when different parts are lit from slightly different angles. Definitely a good start though. Lastly, the amount of colors used is unneccessarily high. You could do this piece in 25ish colors without it looking any different, really. It's best to maintain a palette as you go, so you can reuse colors instead of picking new ones that end up being similar to ones already used.

I hope my suggestions are helpful! Once again though, nice job on your first submission!

52 colors?  Thats a lot, try to use less. Lines are jagged in some places, try AAing on the inside.  Leg is really skinny compared to the rest of the body.  Try making the legs fatter.  Shadings are pillowed in some places, and the bellie button is really flat and doesn't have any depth.  Try to make it rounder.

If you fix those problems it would look reaaaally good :D
