Absolutely stunning, the background is superb and the colors and spaceship are SO good
Reminds me of Muse's single cover for "Sing for Absolution" xD
Nästan så att man får oldschool-stånd! ;D
Very oldschoolish!
very powerful "oldschool" feeling -- looks like a still from the original doom, it's a very similar direction -- i really like it, but you might want to reconsider your palette choice ( great edit dawnbringer ! )
For me, is better the original pic.
Great work Braindamage
Great pic, but as Manupix suggest; perhaps a bit of desaturation and colortweaks in this direction would be better? i47.tinypic.com/160c3gj.png
Loveleh textures :>
Really loving the nebula, and the detail of the piece, but as Manupix said, try shifting hues so you can use them in different areas.
That reminds me so much of Starcontrol 2, I looks like a ship coming out of hyperspace. Great job
Manupix: Thanks alot for the critique. I'm not very good with colors over all and mostly used to linework, so all suggestions are quite welcome. All your points are very valid and I will certainly do a revision of the piece... at a later date! I've stared myself blind on this the last few days and I probably need a bit of rest from it now.
I'm not sure in what way I should alter the hue in the different ramps. Got any specific ideas to share on that point?
I certainly believe you put a huge amount of effort into this!
To be honest, it could use a bit more. ;)
Mostly, your palette is actually 4 separate ramps: you must blend them more and recycle colors. Meaning, shift hues within each of these ramps so there are some colors which could belong to several of them or bridge across them; and use those colors throughout the whole piece, not 'nebula is red and red is nebula'.
Onek's idea is one way. There are others.
The nebula really stands out sharply from the starfield, it actually looks very close, like some blob surrounding the ship.
The ship would also stand out better if the nebula was darker, in similar values to the starfield.
A possible aggravating issue is that the sky has both the less saturated and the most saturated colors, the ship is stuck in between.
A radical option would be to ditch most nebula colors and have most of the bg as starfield. I love that starfield btw, best thing in the piece at this point.
About the ship, the texture is a bit noisy. If it's supposed to be some shiny material, it shouldn't be dithered. As it is, it looks scratched, old, dirty. If that's your intention, then it's not obvious enough!
i like it... very oldskool, like those amiga demoscene stuff.... maybe it would be nice if that red thing in the bg reflects on the ship, like some sorta second lightsource
now that looks to real
radical. :3
