Probably, each 8×8 cell can use diferent color pallet (1pallet = 3 colors ＋ 1 transparent). but 4 pallet is max for all sprites appearing on a screen at the same time.I guess that It's too hi cost that 1 sprites use 4 pallet.

you can overlay sprites for more colors.   Look at Mega Man's original sprite on NES.  His face likely uses a seperate palette to his body so it has the flesh and white of his eyes and the body's two colors can change palette depending on the weapon in use.

btw ....since u seem to know about nes restrictions.... could u tell me if its possible to do 32x32 a sprite and and use diffrent colors for each 8x8 cell or does it have to be max 4 colors all over?
