Well this was for a collaboration on the forums. I don't even know how long I've been working on this on and off. But those crystals just squeezed the soul out of me. Anyway, 16 colors (including transparency) and enjoy!

the idea is good but it looks so unfinished. no cracks in the stones and between them there is only one color without any shadow at all...

@EyeCraft: Well, I think the monster should've been similar since I started right after Naso posted his first update on his creature on the other forums. As I said I'll work on it later to improve it. And thanks for the suggestion.

Surprisingly similar to Naso's. But I like this one better. Once I get my computer back I want to do a creature from the mineral egg. I wonder if it's ok to do a creature from your own egg? Well the mineral formations look pretty nice, but the rocks are really lacking some texture. Almost looks plastic, you'd be surprised what some "splash-here, splash-there" dithering can do to give rocks some convincing texture...

Well, those hard earned time with the crystals were worth it...but the rock monster looks a little iffy...maybe some more dithering or other type of shading to give him texture would help?
