I thought it was a dog but it lacks ears. Nice screenies though even if it uses one more (unnecessary) color than gameboys did.

Bottom right: those circles look like some advanced Pokeball.
What animal is the player? for the pose in the screens looks like a bit a duck but for the face seems an marsupial.
