The animation is very ambiguous, probably because it lacks a strong head and shoulder motion.

Head should turn a bit as suggested before.
The head should turn to the right a bit i think, just so we know he's not an owl :P. If his head faced straight to the camera with his eyes far to the left, would help the motion a lot. You might also want to cut one of the block-motion frames and get rid of the dot flying at him so as to make it snappier (that is, go from the setup straight to the blocked frames with no slush in-between).
