I love this game a lot, and i also love this mockup that you did!
Thanks for the input, guys. I didn't have a heck of a lot of time to spend on this, but I did take some of your suggestions to heart. Initially, I was doing a basic upscaling of the original (table cloths and all), but skuzzing the place up really helped with the atmosphere. I was denied a mega drive in my youth so I've only the SNES version to pull from, but based on your reviews I'm going to have to check it out.
More like the mega drive version was a completely different game, they share little besides the same paper and pencil rpg source material with the SNES version. Both games have their strengths, I think I prefer the mega drive one too, really.
I've also noticed that one of the punks is shaded a bit differently than the other, even though I believe both should be identical if we were to assume this was an actual ingame shot.
I don't know, I like it. Maybe the wood's a bit too bright compared to the rest... and, well, do they still use wooden tables in the Shadowrun world?
It's nice but I agree with Doppleganger. The bar just looks too clean and lacking in atmosphere. The characters, particularly the big green guys just don't look like they belong there and I'm wondering why the need for the table cloths. I would imagine with those type of people there wouldn't be any point in the cloths as they'd just get ragged and torn and stained over and over again. But then I'd expect some brawls to break out anyways and see the furniture itself needing replacing too. I'd like to at least see more details of wear and tear on the place to make it look like it's been visited many times and been home to a lot of drinking and rowdy behaviour.
And yeah the Sega version of the game was better unusually.
I was wondering why there are no shadowrun mockup on pixeljoint, and than this...
Awesome mockup...
I was always told the genesis version was leaps and bounds better. I've never played either, personally. Although I played the pen and paper once, and am aware of the premise of all of the above.
The mock itself is really nice!, and I'd be willing to play the game regardless of system. The only problem I have with it, is that is seems a little too clean for shadowrun. I would expect more of a techno-punk, grimey type of atmosphere. especially given the characters you seem to have populated the bar with. this looks more like a classy martini bar that ran out of money before the real decorating could begin.
I signed up just to say "aww, hell yes!"
Fantastic piece, and not just the nostalgia.
All I could suggest is some clarify between the punks' hair and jacket, move the orc a pixel or so away from the wall (right now it looks like he's sorta "in" it), and move about the table in the bottom left so the chair isn't "above" the tablecloth, yet the feet are under it.
Since you made this they have remade the game, but this pixel art I like more.
