My appologies for not getting back to you about the idle animation. I usually only check for replies in my mailbox. After reading through your post, it would probably look better with the jet effect, yeah.
As for how I'd fix it, again, this is without seeing it with the jet effect, so take it with a grain of salt, but adding more life to the arms and legs during the idle. Right now they look sort of static just bobbing up and down. For example, I'd suggest having the arms move back a bit into the background when they go down. The same could go for the legs.
Anyway, sorry if I didn't explain that too well, the bottom line for me is that it's just too bland and could use some oomph. My previous points still stand though, as it's an amazing peace otherwise.
Thanks a lot for all the comments guys! :D
Kramlack: So, how would you advise that I improve the idle animation?
He's actually suppose to have a three frame jet effect animation behind him, so it's possible it would look a bit better with that, but I really didn't feel like fiddling with an extra layer of graphics when I was putting the frames together (if my computer didn't lag like hell when I was doing it, I probably would have done it, but man...). Plus, I figured that I might have to consider putting those jet effects behind ALL his frames; in the game, they'd be animating seperatly anyhow from his sprite... but I digress. :P
Satsume: Yes, I was absolutly inspired by squirlsquid's awesome work! I thought about possibly submitting it into the weekly challenge under the guise that I was imitating him, but I didn't make it for the contest. :P
jamesmorrow07: Yeah, I was also inspired by G Gundam for the halo! I just thought it was a neat little effect to add to an otherwise boring missile animation.
Reminds me a bit of the God/Burning Gundam from G Gundam--especially with that halo and those wing pieces.
Love it But When You Kinda Zoom In It's Big and It's Much More Better
Not digging the idle animation as it looks a bit rough, animation wise, compared to the rest of the moves. Perhaps you were just going for a robotic motion effect, but I feel there's more that could be done to improve it.
None the less, amazing colours and animation.
SO, I come to pixel joint, saying to myself it's high time I make a pixel, considering I haven't in the last year. Then I look at my buddy list and end up browsing YOUR gallery and well I just wonder what I was thinking. :B
Excellent work mister b b d.
