This is a running animation test for my character in a snowball fight game I'm making, which stars members of the forum I go to, Martin2K.

The left sprite is the much older one, and though it was smoother it wasn't very cartoony or fun. Plus it just didn't look right.

The newer sprite on the right is goofier looking and even uses less frames, which is really good when you have 8 other characters to sprite out.

Though the newer sprite doesn't quite match the old background, I'll get around to improving it.

Here's a link to some video footage of the game: www.youtube.com/watch

The left one has nicer and smoother animation~ but the right is cuter...=D

Maybe "horrible" wasn't the right word.  It looks a lot more blurry than the first, and the lack of movement is not satisfying.  The older one looks more complete, the new one looks like it was done quickly (of course, you needed to do this quickly, but the small details should be fixed up).  I don't know, that's just my two cents.

Ouch. Horrible? Least I tried.

"Smooth" is not what I'm looking for, not with a faster paced game. When you have yourself in a one-man team taking on a video game project, you tend to cut corners in order to deal with the workload, otherwise things never get done.

Just something I've learned over the years..

I much prefer the left.  The right has banding, some pillow shading, and horrible AA.  The left is smother and, IMO, much nicer to look at.

Left on is so much better.  It has much better eleents, one of being the rotation of the face.

The one on the right is just a kick out, then a retraction back into the part where the legs are closest, and then a kick out in the oposite direction.  That's what it seems like if it makes any sense.

And as jalonso said, hair seems a bit static.  Luving the background.  What is it for?

And I tried running in jeans today.  Wasn't really fun.

Some hair bounce would be great. left does have a better cycle.

Understandable, but I felt it just disagreed with everything I was trying to do, in terms of style.

It looks too natural, which isn't what I was trying to achieve. Looking for cartoony...you know?
